PREVIEW
The controversy surrounding Amir Khan doesn’t look likely to abide anytime soon as the fallout from the Lamont Peterson fight continues. Having suffered a defeat in their December bout, Amir Khan was right to be furious at some shoddy refereeing which certainly cost him the fight. And, although the authorities agreed with his grievances, the result was set to stand as a blemish on the British boxer’s impressive CV.
However, following Peterson’s failed drugs test, the American has been stripped of his titles and the match voided so Khan’s record returns to 26 wins and one loss from 27 fights. Danny Garcia will be aiming to add a further blemish to that record and the rising star is himself undefeated in 23 professional fights and has 14 KOs to his name.
Garcia’s camp have inflamed tensions before the fight with a series of controversial statements about Khan’s race and religion which adds further spice to an anticipated clash. Yet this is a big step up in class for the American pretender and he was rather labored in his last fight against Erik Morales. With a reach of 180cm, Khan has a 5cm advantage over the American and that gives him a big advantage. Khan’s superior speed is another worrying factor for Garcia to contend with and that’s why ‘King Khan’ is currently trading so short.
While it would be a surprise to see the Bolton boy beaten, we should remember Khan was a massively short favourite to take care of Breidis Prescott in the only fight he has lost to date. Perhaps the best way to make a profit on this game would be to back Khan via the Method of Victory Market which covers most bases.
