PREMIER LEAGUE FRIDAY: The Striker previews Friday Night Football in the Premier League as West Ham host Chelsea with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
WEST HAM V CHELSEA
8pm Matchday Two from the Premier League rolls around quickly on Betdaq Betting Exchange! We kick it off with Friday Night Football again, and this time we have a London Derby as West Ham host Chelsea. It’s fair to say that both sides got off to a disappointing start last weekend – West Ham were embarrassed losing 3-0 to Sunderland while Chelsea could only draw 0-0 at home to Crystal Palace. There was a huge amount of negativity directed towards West Ham after the Sunderland game; it was mainly due to their effort and lack of fight to be honest. Both are exceptionally bad signs and it’ll be interesting to see how they bounce back.
It’s still exceptionally early in the season, but if we don’t see a bit of push-back from the squad here after all the criticism I do feel that would be a very bad sign this early into the season. West Ham have had very poor under-lining numbers for a while now, and Graham Potter hasn’t made a major impact. He was a major boost at the time given how poor Julen Lopetegui was. The reality is West Ham had it so good under David Moyes – it was always likely to go downhill after the fans got on his back. He did deliver a major European trophy and quite possibly the raised expectations led to his sacking.
West Ham find themselves under immense pressure early in the season. While Chelsea would have obviously been disappointed with a draw at home to Crystal Palace, unlike West Ham they played very well. They finished with an xG over 2.0 and you can make a strong argument that they were one of the most unlucky sides of the opening weekend. It’s disappointing to drop points of course, but there was nothing disappointing with the performance. It’s not a surprise to see Chelsea come into the game as the odds on favourites. Chelsea are trading 1.71 with West Ham 5.4 and the draw is 4.3 at the time of writing.
It’s hard to see past a Chelsea win here to be honest, and the 1.71 looks a very nice value position to start the weekend. Although there’s a lot of doom-and-gloom around West Ham after the opening weekend, it’s worth pointing out that Sunderland scored three goals from a very low xG created. On a different day it could have easily been 0-0; I do feel the major worries around West Ham are just the lack of spirit in the squad in general. I’m not going to go crazy with the stakes here, but I’m very happy to take the 1.71 on Chelsea.
