THURSDAY T20 WORLD CUP: The Edge previews Semi-Final 2: India v England with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Semi-Final 2: India v England
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s a blockbuster Semi-Final at the T20 World Cup on Thursday as India and England clash on Betdaq Betting Exchange ! The scene is set for the biggest game of the World Cup so far, and we have a superb venue too – the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This is actually the third consecutive T20 World Cup where these two sides have met at the knockout stage. India won the 2024 semi-final by 68 runs in Guyana, while England exacted revenge in the 2022 edition in Adelaide, defeating India by 10 wickets. I suppose you could say it’s 1-1 heading into this one. You could also say that these two have been on quite the rollercoaster coming here.
India came through the group stage unbeaten, including the big win over Pakistan, before being absolutely demolished by South Africa in Ahmedabad – bowled out for just 111 chasing 188. Then came a must win virtual quarter-final against West Indies in Kolkata. West Indies posted 195/4 and India chased it down with four balls to spare, powered by Sanju Samson’s 97 not out – handling the pressure superb well. That was India’s highest ever run chase in T20 World Cup history. They came into the tournament as the hot favourites, the loss against South Africa cast plenty of doubt, but here they are. They face an England side who have been hit-and-miss for months now.
It will be absolutely fascinating to see what version of England we get here. They scraped past Nepal at this very ground in the group stage in what was an embarrassing near-miss, but since then they have been absolutely clinical. Three wins from three in the Super 8s. Harry Brook played a captain’s knock under pressure against Pakistan, inspiring his team to victory with a blistering 51-ball century – the fastest T20 World Cup hundred ever scored by an Englishman. They looked dead and buried against New Zealand too, but their batting line-up never knows when to stop hitting and they blew up New Zealand 1.06 backers! The big question, possibly the deciding factor, will be how the Indian bowling line-up handle England swinging at everything. We know what the UK media are like, Bazball will either be dead or very much alive – depending on the result of course.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The Wankhede has been very high scoring in T20 cricket recently. We’ve had some crazy IPL games here in recent years. The first inning scores here have been 161/9 (won), 184/7 (won), 196/6 (won), 123 all out (chased), 133/8 (chased), 170/7 (chased) and 254/6 (won). It’s important to note most games here have been massive miss-matches on paper or the smaller nations playing each other. It’s hard to know what a par score actually is here. Batting conditions have looked superb though, and given we are likely to see dew, you’d have to think we’re set for a high scoring game.
RECOMMENDED BET:
India are the favourites on home soil and that is no surprise – they are trading around 1.55 at the time of writing. I know India eventually got over the line against West Indies at the weekend, but I have similar thoughts here in the sense that I expect a closer game than the odds suggest. This England batting line-up has been on fire for most of the tournament and while I know a collapse is never far away and you could easily say that they have some issues with their bowling too – the 1.55 on India just feels a little short. They were blown away by South Africa – I think England have the talent to put that kind of pressure on with their hitting. Especially the way the likes of Harry Brook has been playing! I’m happy with a small bet on England from a value point of view.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
The dew factor at the Wankhede is always a major factor here, and you’d have to give a slight edge to the chasing side. If there is minimal dew, the team batting first can post a big score and defend. However, with dew you’d expect the bowlers to really struggle to defend. With that being said, I do feel that this is a game where you want to support the batting line in both innings – I wouldn’t be surprised to see 200+ posted and then chased given conditions. Both of these line-ups have the firepower to post 200+. I would not be looking to support either bowling attack; back the batters and watch the dew closely.
