THURSDAY IPL: The Edge previews Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We have a cracker at the IPL on Thursday on Betdaq Betting Exchange as Mumbai Indians host Chennai Super Kings at the iconic Wankhede. This is the El Clasico of Indian cricket – the two most decorated franchises in IPL history, each with five titles to their name, but these days wins have been hard to come by. Times have moved on, and both sides are firmly in the bottom half of the table and both are in serious need of a win. How things have changed. These are not the forces of nature they once were. Obviously when the IPL was still new, you can Sachin at Mumbai and MS Dhoni with CSK – they easily grew to become the most supported and biggest franchises; they probably still are, but results have been going in the wrong direction.
Mumbai Indians have had a miserable few years; even finishing bottom of the table a few times. They’ve only managed two wins from their first six games and are already well off the playoff spots. Tilak Varma produced one of the innings of the season, an absolutely stunning maiden IPL century off just 45 balls that hauled Mumbai out of trouble at 46/3. His unbeaten 101 powered Mumbai to 199/5, and then Jasprit Bumrah and Ashwani Kumar bowled them to a 99 run demolition of Gujarat Titans. A win was badly needed and it came in some style. CSK have the same record – two wins from six games – the defending champion of consistency in the IPL for so many years, CSK find themselves once again propping up the lower half of the table.
Last season they finished bottom; they have clearly not resolved all their problems despite significant squad changes. MS Dhoni has been injured; granted at his age he’s unlikely to turn a game around these days anyway. Reports suggest he is now nearing full fitness and that this very game at the Wankhede is the most likely return date. He’s 44 now, but obviously with the IPL it’s more Bollywood than cricket sometimes. The place will go mad if he bats, even for the away side!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The Wankhede is one of the most batter friendly grounds in the IPL. Can we even stretch that and say the world? It’s been another run fest this season so far too – the first inning scores have been 220/4 (chased), 240/4 (won) and 195/6 (chased). That 195 was chased in just 16.3 overs too. That would suggest a par score is well over 200; obviously 220 was chased already as well. The boundaries are short, the outfield is lightning fast, and the pitch offers true, consistent bounce that suits attacking batters perfectly. It’s hard not to expect another run fest. However, these two sides have obviously been under-performing so that would be the only worry.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s quite easy to poke holes in both these sides. In the last few years it has also paid to be against them too. They are still two of the biggest supported franchises in the IPL, and when they play so poorly they are generally over-bet. Two sleeping giants always has a special feel to it, even if neither side is setting the world alight right now. I have to say I was a little surprised to see the odds when I clicked into the market here – Mumbai are the clear favourites at 1.7. I felt we’d see a more even market; not that I have confidence in either side here, but I’m happy to back CSK from a value point of view at 2.3 or bigger.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Given what we have seen here in 2026, going in expecting anything other than a high scoring game would be a brave call. Dew is always a major factor; whoever chases will have the advantage of a slippery ball too. I’d give a slight edge to the chasing side; and basically the pressure of having to score 220+ in the first innings might be too much for these batting line-ups as well. It is going to be a very high scoring game based on everything we’ve seen here this season, but as I said above it is hard to commit with these two sides. That being said, you don’t want to be on the bowling side at this ground in general!
