Romanian side CFR Cluj surprised many people when they saw off Braga 2-0 on matchday one of the Champions League and it would be folly of Manchester United to underestimate their opponents tonight.
United started their European campaign with a laboured 1-0 win over Galatasaray at Old Trafford in a game they were lucky to win. The 3-2 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend riled Sir Alex Ferguson, as sloppy defending saw the Red Devils lose ground in the title race.
The Scot will expect a response from his men and it’s rare his team suffers back-to-back defeats. Wayne Rooney is likely to partner Robin van Persie up-front and that should compensate for the likes of Michael Carrick, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs not making the trip to Eastern Europe.
United have won both their previous two visits to Romania and it is very rare you can back Manchester United at around 1.7 for a game against pretty moderate opposition. That is a generous price all things considered and, although Cluj coach Ioan Andone is confident his side can cause an upset, it’s hard to see that happening.
