He now previews tonight’s match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Juventus….

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Match Preview:
Shakhtar Donetsk v Juventus:
Wednesday 7.45pm.

Golden Tickets….
It is the final night for the group stages of the 2012/2013 Champions League and of the eight games left to play there are only two golden tickets into the coveted knockout stages that are still up for grabs. Galatasaray,CFR Cluj, Benfica, giant killers Celtic and past winners Juventus & Chelsea are all vying to keep their dreams alive of becoming this season’s UEFA Champion’s League winners.

Conspiracy conspiracy….
The big talk in the gambling world today will centre around Group E where the draw in the Shakhtar v Juventus game is incredibly as low as 2.04! This is a lay for me as even if Shakhtar wanted to play for a draw I don’t think they would know how! In all the games played by them in this season’s CL they have played with an attacking only system comparable only to that of FC Barcelona. They did play in one draw and as is the irony of football it was against tonight’s opponents Juventus in Turin when the Italians had to quickly, and successfully, adapt their game plan after twenty minutes when their visitors completely outplayed their more illustrious hosts. The Shakhtar Coach, Mircea Lucescu, is no fool and knows that a point wins his team the group and a potential ‘easier’ task in the knockout phase but a victory may knockout one of the stronger teams in the competition.

Italian Defending….
Italian teams have long been renowned for their dour defending style and this is still true however the Serie A sides have long since adapted a more offensive style in recent years to adapt to the changing ways football is been played at the highest level. Juventus will play for the draw, no question. The Italians will probably play with one up front and pack the midfield with a particular eye on preventing their hosts wingers/wingbacks from creating any chances. The Italians also know that they are in with a chance of victory as well and will be hoping for a smash and grab which is also a possibility given they have scored at least one goal in every one of their CL group games.

First Team players….
This is the biggest game of the Turin club’s season to date. Coach Antonio Conte will be selecting his best eleven in the quest to gain a place in Friday’s draw.
The ‘Old Lady’ had an easy derby victory at the weekend against ten man Torino and come here full of confidence sitting at the top of the Serie A league. They have failed to score in only two of their eighteen competitive matches this season and no doubt it is the world class Andrea Pirlo pulling the strings in midfield that is the instigator for many of them. The home side will incur the loss of regular top striker Luiz Adriano for his now infamous lesson to the world in ‘how to be a bad sports man’. Adriano should be replaced by either the experienced and eager Eduardo or Ukrainian international Marko Devic.

Draw too short….
If you are going to back the draw I would advise you. for better value, to back the score draw as it is hard to envisage either of these teams not creating any clear cut chances in the ninety minutes. Shakhtar have proved in their away game to Nordsjaelland just how ruthless they can be and their Italian visitors are no angels themselves. Like most games the draw at 3.5 is the correct price so when the opportunity comes along, in a high stakes game, to lay a 3.5 shot at 2.04 then it’s time to show the world that it’s not only footballers that can be ruthless….
