TWO BETS AT FAIRYHOUSE FOR SHAMROCK: This afternoon’s meeting at Fairyhouse goes ahead after the track passed an 8am inspection. Shamrock finds the BETDAQ layers in a generous mood on Tuesday. Last year’s Grand National 3rd, Seabass (pictured) runs in the opener.
Officials at Fairyhouse had been concerned by the prospect of rain and snow overnight but they have assessed conditions and given the meeting the thumbs up.
Horse Racing Ireland tweeted: “Fairyhouse will go ahead today as scheduled, ground remains heavy and forecast unsettled.”
However, Wednesday’s meeting at Down Royal has been cancelled due a waterlogged track and a light covering of snow.
Last seasons third in the Grand National, Seabass, reappears in the opening hurdle at Fairyhouse in a race where the hot favourite Make Your Mark has also been off the track for a long time.
The value looks to lie with the Dermot Weld trained Rock Critic who enjoys a fitness advantage, will be the one best suited by the two mile trip and has plenty of class on the flat. He won on his debut over hurdles at Galway in grand style and the BETDAQ layers offer of 4 looks far too generous for me to ignore.
I was expecting a shade of odds-on about Grey Monk in the 2.25 but again the BETDAQ layers appear in a generous mood today. An expensive purchase, the Henry de Bromhead trained runner should build on an excellent third at Leopardstown on his jumps debut.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Grey Monk (2.25 Fairyhouse)
NEXT BEST: Rock Critic (1.25 Fairyhouse)
