PUNCHESTOWN EVE: Shamrock bids for a top of the week winner at Cork tonight ahead of the star-studded Punchestown Festival which starts on Tuesday.
It’s going to be a slog. For punters as well as horses – five days of top-class competitive racing and I’ll be marking your card on each and everyone of them as we pace ourselves through the extravaganza. It could just be the best Festival ever – just look at the superstars on the stage…. Sprinter Sacre, Hurricane Fly, Quevega and Our Conor.
Punchestown general manager Richie Galway admits parts of the track are likely to be heavy when the Festival gets under way on Tuesday.
Galway said: “If the forecast is correct, I think we’ll get under way on soft, heavy in places on all our tracks – chase, hurdle, bumper and cross-country.

So we need a winner to start the marathon week ? You bet we do.
I see my old friend Lurcher is running in the 7.10. I napped him last time out at Tramore where he lived up to his name by jinxing and running out. He was very weak in the market pre-race.
That was in the race where tonight’s rival, Dougal Philps, very nearly made all the running to win.
He looks a safer proposition tonight.

NAP: Dougal Philps (7.10 Cork)
