4 WINNING RACES OUT OF 7 FROM SHAMROCK ON FRIDAY INCLUDING A WINNING NAP AND PLACE LAY: Now for his race by race preview for Saturday’s card at the Galway Festival.

A very pleasing day especially as two of the winners were very much against the in running odds on BETDAQ.

The nap, Agreement hit an in running high of around 25 before coming through to win whilst the place lay on Snakes And Ladders was successful but I’m still not sure how !!

If you saw the race you’ll know what I mean – if not try and watch the 5.40 from Galway last night – it’s astonishing how he didn’t win and mega astonishing how he’s finished unplaced.

The scorecard read as follows:

5.05 Captain Moonlite (WIN and PLACE) LOST
5.40 Snakes And Ladders (PLACE LAY) SUCCESSFUL UNPLACED EVENS
6.15 Agreement (NAP) SUCCESSFUL WON 4/5
6.50 Kingdom LOST
7.25 Unaccompanied SUCCESSFUL WON 8/15
7.55 Bruff (WIN and PLACE) SUCCESSFUL WON 5/1
8.25 Admiral Hawke LOST

Moving onto Saturday’s card and we have an eight race card starting at 2pm:

2:00 Ladbrokes Loyalty Card E.B.F. Maiden (2yo, 1m 100y, 7 runners)

The ground remains heavy and we’ll continue to use this as the main catalyst for the selections – a strategy that worked yesterday. The BETDAQ market is dominated by Leafcutter and Iniesta who both made hugely promising debuts, but on vastly different ground. Both have pedigrees to suggest they’ll handle the heavy ground but until they’ve proven it we are guessing a little. The safe policy would be to fall back on Dermot Weld and I’ll take his Leafcutter to win the opener.

SELECTION: Leafcutter

2:35 Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Nursery Handicap (2yo, 7f, 7 runners)

It could easily be another for Weld here with Mahon Falls who makes her handicap debut on quite possibly a good mark. She has improved with each run but not been given a hard time in her races and could easily improve sufficiently off this mark (65 to give Weld yet another winner.

SELECTION: Mahon Falls (NAP)

3:10 Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. ‘Ahonoora’ Handicap (3yo+, 7f, 13 runners)

Weld has a tight grip on this too with the top two in the BETDAQ market. Stuccodor is on a terrific run of five straight wins and should be supported until beaten. He often wins by narrow margins but crucially has winning form on soft ground and is preferred to stable companion Northern Rocked.

SELECTION: Stuccodor

3:45 Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle (Grade C) (4yo+, 2m 5f 190y, 23 runners)

The Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle has attracted a competitive field and narrow preference is for Abou Ben who has been nibbled at in the morning BETDAQ market. He finished 10th here on Monday but it’s interesting that connections have turned him out again so quickly on ground which will be much more to his liking.

SELECTION: Abou Ben (WIN and PLACE)

4:20 Get Lucky With Ladbrokes Handicap (50-75) (3yo+, 7f, 14 runners)

Again it’s the ground that is the primary factor for me today and I like the look of Cairdiul who was a close second here at the Festival last season but went on to win at Galway in September on heavy ground. He clearly likes the track and ground and is recommended win and place.

SELECTION: Cairdiul (WIN and PLACE)

4:55 Ladbrokes Feeling Lucky Handicap (50-80) (3yo+, 1m 4f, 18 runners)

Back to Dermot Weld and I think his Magnolia Ridge can go close here on her handicap debut. She only had to be pushed out to land the odds in a Tipperary maiden last time out and although not gauanteed there is every chance she will handle the softer conditions here.

SELECTION: Magnolia Ridge

5:25 Ladbrokes Red Day For JEF E.B.F. Fillies Maiden (3-4yo, 1m 4f, 9 runners)

The market is dominated by Aidan O’Brien’s debutant Exotic and Dermot Weld’s Sharp Crisp Air who has been placed in all four starts but remains a maiden. She should benefit from the step up to 1m 4f and her experience should win the day.

SELECTION: Sharp Crisp Air

5:55 Ladbrokes ‘Bet In Play’ Handicap (50-70) (4yo+, 2m, 12 runners)

Busted Tycoon won with plenty in hand here on Tuesday and is odds-on to follow up at the time of writing.

SELECTION: Busted Tycoon
