DESPITE SHAMROCK’S NAP WINNING YESTERDAY THERE WAS MORE BAD NEWS THAN GOOD NEWS: SHAMROCK looks back on a day of shocks at the Curragh.
Firstly, the good news. Tapestry won well to land the NAP at 4/5. She quickened up nicely for Joseph O’Brien to win the Group 2 Debutante Stakes.
The day started well for Team O’Brien – they landed the opener with another filly Terrific.
However, later in the afternoon two of their shorter priced runners were soundly beaten.
There was a shock result to the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh as red-hot favourite War Command could finish only third behind David Wachman’s Sudirman.
The O’Brien-trained War Command ran out a brilliant winner when 20/1 for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and he was unsurprisingly far shorter odds to make it three wins from as many starts, being sent off the 2/5 favourite.
There was a further setback for O’Brien later in the card when Sea Siren was beaten. She looked smart when winning on her first start since joining O’Brien from Australian trainer John O’Shea at Fairyhouse last month, but was well beaten on this occasion in third.
We head to Ballinrobe and in the opener tonight I like the look of Tax Reform who was just touched off by a nose at Galway last time out and should be well suited by the extra distance here.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Tax Reform (5.15 Ballinrobe)
