WEDNESDAY CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: We preview Wednesday’s Champions League games between CSKA Moscow v Man U, Atletico Madrid v Chelsea, Anderlecht v Celtic and PSG v Bayern Munich with a recommended BETDAQ bet for each game.
CSKA MOSCOW V MANCHESTER UNITED
7.45pm Manchester United were pushed very hard when beating Southampton 1-0 away from home at the weekend – they had something that has been missing with them recently – they grinded out a result when playing badly. On a tough trip to Russia here, they might have to get back in the trenches to grind out another result. CSKA haven’t got a good record in Europe looking at their stats, however they did manage to beat Benfica away from home on matchday one. Despite their poor record, they have been pretty solid at home – very tough to beat and haven’t conceded many goals – so the 1.69 on United looks too short to back. We feel that this will be a very tight affair, and despite United scoring plenty of goals this season, the under 2.5 goals bet at 1.84 stands out as the value here.

ATLETICO MADRID V CHELSEA
7.45pm We had some glamour ties in matchday two with Dortmund v Real last night and PSG v Bayern tonight, however this could be the match of the week. Chelsea visit Atletico’s new stadium, and one wonders can they make it the fortress that was the Calderon and their incredible clean sheet record in Champions League football. It will be a challenge for Atletico to keep a clean sheet against this Chelsea side who have scored nine goals in their last two games. It should be a fascinating clash, with the match odds at the time of writing; Atletico 2.18, Chelsea 4.0 and the draw 3.35.
Atletico could only draw away from home on matchday one against Roma, and they will have to up that level here to get a result. We feel that the odds are about right in the match odds market though so there is little value on offer there. We feel that Chelsea will be happy to come here and defend to begin with and with Atletico always keeping things tight, under 2.5 goals looks slightly too big at 1.65.

ANDERLECHT V CELTIC
7.45pm These two can be forgiven for looking forward to playing each other in Group B – and who could blame them when sharing a group along with PSG and Bayern Munich! Obviously it is both sides best chance of a win, with one eye on a Europa League spot already more than likely. The match odds at the time of writing currently read; Anderlecht 2.2, Celtic 3.6 and the draw is 3.7. Celtic won the Old Firm Derby 2-0 at the weekend, however beating Rangers is still a million miles away from the level required for the Champions League – and the 5-0 loss at home to PSG displayed what a gulf in class there is. However, Anderlecht aren’t PSG, and while we feel that Celtic will be competitive, it’s hard to turn down the 2.2 on Anderlecht who should outclass this Celtic side with home advantage.

PSG V BAYERN MUNICH
7.45pm Both these sides has disappointing draws domestically at the weekend, with PSG held to 0-0 away from home against Montpellier and Bayern drawing 2-2 at home to Wolfsburg. It will be really interesting to see how PSG fare here against Bayern after spending so much money. Bayern are a superb yardstick, usually make it to the latter stages of the Champions League – and if PSG are really going to be a force, they’ll have to be beating sides like Bayern at home. The thing is though, should they be as short as 2.06 to do so? Given things don’t look rosy in the camp at the moment with Neymar and Cavani, we simply have to lay the 2.06 on PSG on their first real test – this price is way too short for an unproven side against a very solid team like Bayern. It looks one of, if not the best, bet of the night.
