⭕ 12.50 Newbury Al Aasy, who won this four years ago after taking a Group 3 in April (John Porter Stakes), tries for a similar Spring double; his opening shot this time was at the same level in the Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown.
Brilliant placing by trainer William Haggas has had this half-a-million-pound winner in the frame nine times in his last 10 starts (five wins up to 1m 5f). BETDAQ 3.95.
Kings Gambit, who won the London Gold Cup (1m 2f) on this card last year, was third in the Great Voltigeur on his only previous attempt at 12 furlongs. Blinkered first time today, and Ryan Moore booked.
But Sunway would be a bigger danger if he were to reproduce the level of his Irish Derby second and St Leger third. BETDAQ 5.6.
FAMILY RIDING ON A WAVE
⭕ 2.00 Newbury (London Gold Cup) Roger Charlton won this three times in five years (2015-19) and son Harry, who kept it in the family last season with King’s Gambit, puts a first-time hood on Wave Rider. BETDAQ 7.5 taken.
First foal of a Golden Horn mare, coming out of the one stall, the gelding was well backed when books opened.
Aidan O’Brien, who has three runners here today – including one in the trial, of course! – is also looking for a result from the Genealogy of this race!
Very green in his maiden races, Genealogy is a massive horse and must improve on everything he does. BETDAQ 6.3
His fifth in a Group 3 at Newmarket in October has made him a standout here, since the winner was stablemate and now Derby favourite, Delacroix.

⭕ 2.35 Newbury (Lockinge Stakes) With 14 winners already in May, Richard Hannon Jnr is as fast out of the traps this year as his dad used to be. Come on mon fils!
His Irish 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes winner, Rosallion, has never really missed a beat, except on soft ground.
One score connections quickly settled last year was Rosallion’s Newmarket 2,000 Guineas defeat by Notable Speech. They turned it around when Notable Speech was only seventh as favourite in that St James’s Palace.
Notable Speech was back to form in the Sussex Stakes and, if anyone has had a better Spring than Hannon Jnr it must be the Speech-maker Charlie Appleby.
What a Lockinge! The ultimate decider: level on the ratings at 122 each but with Notable Speech currently ahead on prizemoney won at £1,503,740 to £994,868.

O’Brien runs May Hill fifth Ecstatic and the Gosdens field Sand Gazelle, the Newmarket Pretty Polly fourth, a length behind Qilin Queen in second. Wonder Star reappears eight days after scoring easily at Ascot.
But now that he’s in the Classics picture with a colt, Pride Of Arras, Ralph Beckett is likely to stake his Oaks and Royal Ascot claim with the fillies.
He runs the grey Likealot but I liked a lot of 11.0 Revoir, half-sister to his Fred Darling winner, Remarquee, and related on the dam’s side to Look Here, who first put Beckett on the map, winning the 2008 Epsom Oaks at 33-1.
