DAQMAN 6-1 SHOT HITS TARGET: Daqman was in at the start of a treble for William Haggas and Tom Marquand at Newmarket yesterday when low-drawn Bullet Point raced alone on the far rail and galloped clear in the final stages.

MULLINS HAS PLUMPTON PLANS: Dan Skelton also had one go clear at Cheltenham, as he went more than £30,000 up on Willie Mullins for the British trainers’ title. Mullins has a home festival at Fairyhouse starting on Sunday but will also target the Sussex Champion Hurdle at Plumpton that day.
ALL-WEATHER FEAST ON GOOD FRIDAY
It’s the usual feast of all-weather racing on Good Friday with AW Finals day at Newcastle the highlight backed up by Lingfield and Chelmsford.
⭕ 1.15 Newcastle (Burradon Stakes, Listed) As mentioned yesterday, John Gosden looks to have a real good one on his hands with Craven winner Field Of Gold and he can continue the good work this week here with Bowmark who was just trading on the right side of evens on the early morning Betdaq Betting Exchange market.
The Kingman colt was easy to back on debut at Kempton in December but stormed home impressively to beat Oursin by four and a half lengths. Factoring in natural likely improvement he is taken to see off the 110 rated Royal Playwright who brings considerable experience to the table.
His Group placed form at Sandown and Newmarket make him the clear pick and the current hot form of trainer Andrew Balding is another positive but on the negative side he disappointed at Doncaster when last in the Futurity and has no public form on the all-weather.
James Fanshawe is another trainer going well and his Glittering Legend arrives seeking a hat-trick after a narrow win in a class 2 at Kempton last time out. This is obviously tougher.
WHISPER FOR A HORSE
⭕ 1.50 Newcastle (3 Year Old Championships Handicap) Whatever the fate of Andrew Balding’s Royal Playwright in the opener he might not have to wait too long for a winner (another winner?) as Berkshire Whisper looks to have an outstanding chance over this six furlong sprint.
The key here is the starting handicap mark of 89 which looks pretty lenient to my eyes. He has won two of his three starts to date, including over course and distance last time out when pulling nicely clear.
This is clearly a much tougher task and he will need to improve again but that surely is likely on just his fourth start? He is preferred to Balding’s other runner Humam who was a beaten odds on favourite at Southwell last time out.
So Darn Hot may be the biggest danger. He is remarkably consistent and now chases a hat-trick after class 2 wins over this trip both here and at Lingfield. The rise of 6lb though looks a steadier.
WHAT A LEGEND
⭕ 4.42 Newcastle (All-Weather Championships Marathon Handicap) A really good stayers event concludes the card and I’m staying loyal to Roaring Legend to complete a four timer since joining Hugo Palmer’s yard.
He couldn’t have been more impressive in the trial for this race when winning by five lengths at Lingfield pulling clear in the closing stages.
Whilst his weight has increased by a hefty eight pounds, we haven’t seen the limit of this one’s ability yet and he can make another bold bid.
It won’t be easy. There are multiple winners on the card, including Plage De Havre and Duke Of Oxford, whilst Wonder Legend also comes into the reckoning after his success at this level at Wolverhampton last time out when he won in good style (beating Plage De Havre by two and three quarter lengths).
