BANG! SECONDS OUT AT HAYDOCK: High On Hope but low on luck yesterday when Daqman’s two bets at Haydock collided after the start. Suhub didn’t get going until late on but High On Hope was sent in pursuit of the leader in the final two furlongs and failed by a head. French nap, Asmarani, was also second.
HAYDOCK WATERING.. CAN OR CAN’T? Punters beware this going dilemma. Despite the return of good to firm at Haydock, races were run up to seven and a half seconds slow yesterday. Showers are expected before the Group races tomorrow; more watering might make it soft; none at all and the track might dry out for Saturday.

⭕ 2.40 Goodwood Though this is 2m, stalls 1 to 6 have won this eight times out of 10.
Mr Hampstead (out of 5 today) made all here from 4 just three weeks ago. That was class 4 but he got a 7lb ‘fine’ which has hiked him to 9st 10lb in this class 3.
Manxman has much better long-term form: a winner of five out of six in 2023, he was second in the Cesarewitch in October and ran well on his reappearance.

⭕ 3.50 Goodwood (Festival Stakes) Cambridgeshire winner Liberty Lane has not been disgraced in Group races and is getting 7lb here from penalised Jockey Club Stakes third, Silver Knott. But the rain he needs seems to have swerved Goodwood until tonight. Or has it?

⭕ 6.55 Curragh (Gallinule Stakes) The Irish Guineas meeting opens with the Gallinule Stakes, a 1m 2f Group 3, won five times out of the last eight by Aidan O’Brien. But not one of those five ever won another race in the British Isles!
If you’d laid the five winners of this whenever they started favourite, you would have had 11 hits in their subsequent careers combined!
So, perhaps for the first time in your life, you can put an old-fashioned Timeform squiggle against an O’Brien-winner’s name tonight.
However you mark it, make sure it means ‘lay this beast on BETDAQ in all subsequent outings!’
What we know about Shackleton, the horse, is that connections try to keep their best names for their Group prospects, even to the extent of changing a name if likely to prove worthy of one.
Shackleton, the man from Kildare, was a great explorer, but ultimately famous for failed but courageous expeditions and died aged only 47.
