THE FILLY BANKER AT GOODWOOD: Daqman today spots a filly reckoned to have a fair chance of winning in Group company, but she’s been given time to mature and appears in a lowly handicap at Goodwood. Banker.

TRAINER BANKER AT NEWMARKET: Daqman goes through the three days at Newmarket, which starts tomorrow, checking out the trainers that do well and the races where favourites do well.

HE HUNTS FOR POT OF GOLD: Look out tomorrow for the first day at Newmarket, where he’ll feature Pot Of Gold bets to target value offers, as he described in Tuesday’s column (see Archive).

GOSDEN IS THE CAMBRIDGE MASTER

It’s going to be a tough test of your punting ability. Students of form and facts will be examined for cunning and courage in order to win money at the three-day Newmarket Cambridgeshire meeting, which starts tomorrow.

But Cambridge University graduate John Gosden will help you sit your exams; in the last decade, he’s had 17 winners in the three days and is the trainer to follow, along with Sir Michael Stoute and Mark Johnston.

Best time for favourites is Saturday, with five in a row in the 2.20 and five in the 3.30 in the decade’s results.

THURSDAY:

Best races for favorites: 2.00 maiden (3/7); 4.15 Rose Bowl (Fenwolf Stakes), favourites are on a four-timer.

Trainers (10 years): John Gosden 3, Roger Charlton 2, Sylvester Kirk 2.

Feature races: 3.40 Tattersalls Stakes (2yo), 4.15 Rose Bowl (Fenwolf Stakes).

Contact quote: ‘We could have thrown our Derby hope, Escobar, into the deep end; he’s in the Dewhurst. But rather than jump to Group 1, after his Listed win at Newbury, we are running him in the Group-3 Tattersalls Stakes, as he’s still green.’

FRIDAY:

Worst race for favourites: 1.55 (fillies’ Listed), none. 2.30 (fillies’ Listed) 4/10; 4.15 maiden 4/10

Trainers: John Gosden 8, Sir Michael Stoute 7, Saeed Bin Suroor 5, Andrew Balding 3, William Haggas 3 David Elsworth 2, Roger Charlton 2, David O’Meara 2.

Feature races: 3.05 Rockfel Stakes (Group 2); 3.40 Joel Stakes (Group 2); 5.25 Silver Cambridgeshire.

Contact quote: Three-year-olds are 4/6 in the six years of the Silver Cambridgeshire, with Sir Michael Stoute bringing the recently 1m 4f campaigned Shabbah back in trip to within a furlong of his hat-trick winning distance in the Spring: ‘He’s a real battler in front; he just refuses to lie down.’

You’re Hired: ‘It’s all about pace. He’s won over 7f earlier in the season, but only needed hands and heels riding when scoring over 1m 3f when he returned to form on the last day.’

SATURDAY:

Best races for favourites: 2.20 five wins in a row at 11-4 SP or less; 2.55 none in the decade bigger than 4-1; 3.30 five wins

Trainers: Mark Johnston 7, John Gosden 6, William Haggas 4, Aidan O’Brien 4, Saeed Bin Suroor 2, Richard Hannon 2, Marcus Tregonning 2, Richard Fahey 2, Clive Cox 2.

Feature races: 2.55 Cheveley Park Stakes; 3.30 Middle Park Stakes; 4.10 Cambridgeshire.

Quotes: 2.55 Cheveley Park Stakes (clash of the week): ‘Lady Aurelia is a once in a lifetime filly’ (Wesley Ward); ‘Queen Kindly is the best juvenile filly in my yard ever; as strong as a colt, and very professional.’

‘HIDDEN’ FADILLAH IS A GROUP FILLY

2.00 Goodwood Son of Frankel out of a dam by Roberto’s son Lear Fan, Monarchs Glen is ‘expected’ to make a winning debut for John Gosden in a winning week for him historically.

3.10 Goodwood Fadillah, going for a hat-trick but with current form hidden after a break, is from a late-maturing family and reckoned a Group horse in a handicap here by trainer William Haggas.

3.45 Goodwood Saeed Bin Suroor has won this race four times in the decade including with Holberg in 2010 before he went for the Melbourne Cup (sixth). Sky Hunter has Flemington as his target for the second year running (hampered out of it last year).

The race has cut up this morning and Sky Hunter appears to have only Mount Logan to beat

I say ‘only’ but Mount Logan is 1110 at Goodwod. However, he’s failed twice in the Pattern, against two Group successes for Sky Hunter.

4.55 Goodwood Three-year-olds have an excellent record in this and I shall start off with Gorokai (5.1 offers, Jim Crowley) and King Of Spin (9.8), brought back to his winning trip today.

5.25 Goodwood Tom Marquand is still eligible for apprentice races and Dishy Guru, his mount which won this in 2014, has the blinds reapplied as if meaning business: (16.5 early doors).
