DAQMAN FOR THE BIG OCCASION: Daqman sets the scene today for a Derby double: Chantilly on Sunday for the Prix du Jockey Club and the Epsom Derby next Saturday.

SEVEN-DAY DERBY DOUBLE
⭕ 3.05 Chantilly, Sunday (Prix du Jockey Club) Seven Arc winners in the last 12 have been fillies and mares.
Two of only three colts to score for the home team have been French Derby winners trained by Jean-Claude Rouget: Sotsass and Ace Impact, the only three-year-old.
The score among French yards in play on Sunday is Rouget 6, Andre Fabre 3 but they’re looking over their shoulder at the new kid on the block – le nouveau venue – Francis-Henri Graffard, who has three left in at this stage.
The Chantilly handler, principal trainer to both the Aga Khan and Godolphin (France), first came to English racegoers attention when producing The Revenant to take the British Champions Mile at Ascot then last year trained Calandagan to score at the royal meeting.
Aidan O’Brien and John Gosden – one win each – both have two runners at Chantilly, and both have done well to get low draws: Camille Pisssaro (1) and Trinity College (3) for O’Brien, Detain (6) and Bowmark (8) for Gosden.
Ironically, Curragh Camp (stall 5) is best drawn for Graffard. Look out for the DAQMAN verdict on Sunday .
⭕ 3.30 Epsom, next Saturday (The Derby) Aidan O’Brien (5) and Charlie Appleby (2) have dominated in the last eight years but favourites are only 3-10.
Four outsiders have won among those last eight at 16-1 (twice), 25-1 and 40-1 but O’Brien and Appleby were responsible for all four.
Three of them were taking advantage of high draws: Masar (10), Serpentine (12) and Wings Of Eagles (14). Stalls 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 supplied the rest of the winners.
The only unbeaten colt in this year’s Derby is Pride Of Arras (2-2). Unbeaten this season are Delacroix, Ruling Court, Pride Of Arras, and Stanhope Gardens.
THE JOY OF COFFEE TIME..
⭕ 3.25 Chepstow today The Coffee Pod is quirky but a stone lower than the mark he achieved last Spring and has been running into form since being gelded. BETDAQ this morning: 3.6 offers.
Six of his seven opponents are CD winners but old-timers. Of these, the mare Joy Choi has won twice on this track but started her season on quicker ground. BETDAQ 18.5 and 3.45 a place.
DASH IN FOR BETDAQ OFFER
⭕ 4.05 Brighton This is for horses who have not won a race in 2025. Dashinwhitesargent’s excuse might be that he’s not been in his class.
But he won a class 4 at Epsom last summer, a track with similar undulations, and now wears cheekpieces first time. BETDAQ 6.0 taken.

CRACKER TO BEST THE REST
⭕ 8.25 Haydock LAYS LOGIC: The consequences of Best Adventure’s last-day win at Newmarket (firm) when stepped up to 1m 2f are threefold.
The Frankel gelding is up 7lb; he has to tackle another two furlongs; and it has to be done with cut in the ground, a change of going.
Crackergee’s Kempton second a grade lower has been franked by the winner who is now an 82, which would put him level peggings in this with Kurakka.
But second, third and fourth behind Kurakka at Chelmsford on the first of this month have all been beaten since.
