BANKER AND SIX WINNING BETS: Daqman landed his banker, Don Cossack (WON 6-4), and came out three doubles and a treble to the good when he mixed it with two other winners yesterday. The trio, which combined for more than 41 points total profit, were:

WON 6-4 DON COSSACK (banker nap)
WON 6-4 KILCREA VALE
WON 4-7 BIG WATER

BIG IRISH HANDICAP PICK TODAY: There’s a second handicap pick today, as promised, for the big Leopardstown meeting on Sunday. Plus, of course, his analysis of today’s racing.

ENGLISH BULL’S EYE TOMORROW: Look out for Daqman’s Saturday treatment of the big meeting at Ascot, with the famous Bull’s Eye Bet, which has won two races out of two so far in 2015.

WAXING LYRICAL IN MY SUNDAY BEST

There couldn’t be anything more Irish. Except a winner at Cheltenham, of course. Google for it, if you don’t know all about Waxies Dargle.

I’d sing you The Pogue’s lyrics now but my man in the long grass says you’ll know it right enough after the big meeting at Leopardstown on Sunday, when Waxies Dargle is due to run in the Grade-B hurdle (2.50).

He won at Fairyhouse in November ‘without Paul Carberry breaking sweat’ and English racegoers most probably have to blame the reprise system on the Racing Post website for what happened next.

I was going to tell you all about Waxies Dargle in my ABC Guide for The Ladbroke a week before Christmas but the handicapper at Weatherbys had ‘nobbled’ him, inflicting an 8lb-extra ‘notional’ penalty at Ascot for, presumably, what he saw on film of that Fairyhouse race.

If he’d judged the result on the Irish form of the race, via second and third, Sir Abbot and The Winkler, he’d have kept the winner where he was, on 131. That’s exactly what the Irish handicapper did.

But which man has blundered? That 131 takes no allowance of Paul Carberry’s not breaking sweat yet, though the runner-up, Willie Mullins’ Digeanta, was beaten nearly three lengths at level weights, he has been put on 130.

Waxies Dargle missed The Ladbroke and the son of Sakhee will meet Nicky Henderson’s ante-post favourite, Snake Eyes, in Sunday’s Leopardstown race.

To misquote another set of lyrics (for The Captain): ‘I’ve read the Form Book and some of it was true but there isn’t any burden left so I’m laying it on you.’

BRAVE NAP AT MUSSELBURGH

MUSSELBURGH The Scottish track hosts another competitive jumps card this afternoon. Although not of great quality there are a couple of nice races to target.

I have an early Nap, running at 1.10 but there is very little I can see to get passed him. Brave Spartacus is rated 140 over Fences and just 109 over Hurdles. Despite going up 9lbs for a win over the smaller obstacles last time out, he can probably run badly and still win with a leeway of 31lbs.

Aristo Du Plessis is the most likely danger to the jolly for Lucy Alexander and James Ewart but this Novice is likely to need to improve a little more following up from a fourth last time behind Definitely Red in a slowly run race.

Later on in the card up North, It’s High Time may take all the beating at 2.10. Having won a Maiden at Hexham, he was still travelling well over the same course and distance next time out when coming down three from home. Although he steps up a little in class, he was only beaten 10 lengths in a Grade 2 Bumper last April and that should be a telling factor here. Off 122, he looks to have a lenient Handicap mark.

LINGFIELD Sabre Rock is just shading odds on in the second race on the All Weather. It will take a lot to beat him as he looks for a four timer but the prices are very attractive for a place or each way bet.

The one I am looking to is Turnbury who is currently at 5.6 in the place market on BETDAQ. When recording his first of three wins, Sabre Rock was getting almost a stone in weight from Turnbury and but he is now much better off at the weights. His last two runs were over an inadequate trip of a mile so stepping back up 10 furlongs should help and he is definitely the value bet in the race.

The final race at 4.00 is over a mile and seven furlongs and this may prove to be a good opportunity for the Alan King trained Shadarpour. Although without a win on the flat as yet, he has done quite well over hurdles and two runs back had a good run at Kempton over 2 miles in a Class 5 event. Duke’s Den finished behind him on that occasion but went on to win subsequently and at the weights, Alan King’s charge should have the advantage.

DAQMAN’S BETS (Staked 1-9pts on strength, 10pts for a Banker)
BET 8pts win (Nap) BRAVE SPARTACUS (1.10 Musselburgh)
BET 2pts win and place TURNBURY (1.20 Lingfield)
BET 5pts win IT’S HIGH TIME (2.10 Musselburgh)
BET 5pts win SHADARPOUR (4.00 Lingfield)
