206 POINTS WON IN THREE DAYS: Three more winners yesterday, including the very first race on the new Polytrack at Chelmsford (headline ‘Tryster To Open The Scoring For City’) added more points to Daqman’s run of success, taking him to 206 points profit in three days.

HE POTS 7-2 SCORER SNUKER: He landed three winners, making only eight points profit because stakes were reduced for betting on a new AW track, though punters generally gave Chelmsford the thumbs up:

WON 2-1 Tryster
WON 7-2 Snuker
WON 11-4 Tempus Temporis

LEOPARDSTOWN TAKES JANUARY STAGE

LOOKING AHEAD: There’s hopefully a fair old meeting at Ascot on Saturday but we’re entering the Leopardstown season over the next two weekends, in what amounts to a festival of two halves.

Next Sunday is big-handicap day; the following Sunday, the Grade-1 conditions-race double of Irish Champion Hurdle, in which we could see a phenomenal five consecutive wins for Hurricane Fly, and the Irish Arkle, with Gigginstown jockey Bryan Cooper going for a hat-trick.

I will be looking later this week for something special in the handicaps, having ‘found’ Troytown gamble Balbriggan a few weeks ago (still sadly missed).

NEW TARGETS: I continually review my betting habits. The Bull’s-Eye Bets are doing well but look out tomorrow for a new slant on shorter-priced horses.

My bankers are running at 50%, not the 70% of last season, so I must revise my staking plan accordingly. Keep up to date; keep eyeing new targets. Nothing stands still in racing, even if it seems that way.

PARTING WAY FIRST TIME AT PLUMPTON

PLUMPTON Maccabees (4.05) has dropped 20lb in the last year and now runs at what is turning out to be one of trainer Linda Jewell’s favourite meetings.

She has twice won the earlier handicap chase but has taken out three runners she had declared on the rest of the card today to concentrate on Maccabees in a race she won in 2014 with Clonusker.

I’m taking a chance, too, in the handicap chase. My bet is Albatros De Guye, useful in France and in contention on today’s track before coming down.

He’s had a confidence-boosting run since over hurdles and could be a big priced winner in a race of older exposed horses, with the exception of Six One Away, still only six but learning slowly.

Albatros Der Guye’s trainer, Anna Newton-Smith, who had a 20-1 winner at the last Plumpton meeting, also runs Burgess Dream (3.05).

But my fancy here is chasing debutant Parting Way. Has been running creditably over hurdles, but has needed time since winning his only Irish Point.

The progressive Dawson City (3.35) jumped much better off a slower pace, stepped up in trip at Taunton. A good staying sort, he should go on from there.

WOLVERHAMPTON David Barron has run three horses this year, one winner at Chelmsford yesterday and two before that which both finished within a length or so of the winner.

His Bracka Legend (4.25) is better than the bare form, given three quick educational runs in the autumn, and looks well handicapped off 65 in class 6. I think he’s a class-4 animal.

Pearl Nation (2.55), punished by the handicapper for winning on the Fibresand at Southwell in December and beaten favourite on the last day there as a result, now switches to Tapeta.

Energia Flavio has been running on today’s surface within two or three lengths of the winner in this grade, and the drop in trip and receipt of 7lb from the morning favourite – including Ryan Tate’s allowance – makes him nap material, with the rest of the field made up of modest older horses.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked 1 to 9 for strength; 10 points is a banker).
BET 2pts win ALBATROS DE GUYE (1.55 Plumpton)
BET 5pts win PARTING WAY (3.05 Plumpton)
BET 7pts win DAWSON CITY (3.35 Plumpton)
BET 4pts win MACCABEES (4.05 Plumpton)
BET 8pts win (nap) ENERGIA FLAVIO (2.55 Wolverhampton)
BET 4pts win BRACKA LEGEND (4.25 Wolverhampton)
