YES, IT’S EIGHT BANKERS IN A ROW: Daqman said that he’d be buying money and he’d be going for big-race value. He did both yesterday. And both won. The New One was the latest in his sequence of bankers, part of 12 winning naps out of 17 (results 11111412313111141)

HE’S THE HEADLINE MAKER: Those who follow his headlines had three winners out of three through ‘The One For Banker Number Eight’ (The New One); ‘Manatee Can Man Up To Win In Paris’ and ‘McManus Uncorks Formidable Duo’ (Gentleman Duke)

PLAY CAN POWER IN PONTE FEATURE

One of the biggest days of the year at Pontefract today. Run over a mile, the Listed Tankard Stakes is by far the feature event of the day across Britain this afternoon with eight horses going to post at 3.40.

This looks like a nice race with some decent two year olds taking part but with the soft ground, it is a little difficult to assess some of these.

My Reward is unbeaten in two starts so far at Kempton and Ffos Las and only got up on the line in both. He is going to have to improve a bit, in my opinion, to be competitive here. He finished just ahead of Sharp Sailor last time at Kempton and he will also need to improve significantly to get involved at the finish.

Power Play is the one that I don’t think will need to improve as much. He’s a three time winner with wins on Good to Soft and Good to Firm ground with another win on the All Weather. The trip looks ideal and he appears to be a progressive sort and I find it hard to see past him.

An hour later, 11 horses take on a marathon trip of 2 miles and 2 furlongs. This one is not as difficult to assess but it looks like it could be a tricky race and with that, my vote goes to Embsay Crag who ran well on his last flat start behind Teak over the same trip. He’s been dropped a pound for this race and he’s an each way bet at the very least having made a long trip to be John Quinn’s only runner today.

In the penultimate race, Mark Johnston has a huge opportunity for Bureau, who is dropping back in trip, class and down in the handicap to her last winning mark. Running back on her favoured surface, she ran well in a decent Class 2 affair at Newmarket last time out behind Winter Thunder and a reproduction of that form will be hard to beat here.

NEBULA CAN STORM HOME IN PLUMPTON

2.20 Windsor Heavy ground once more this afternoon at Windsor which was a tough task last week and is likely to be hard going again today.

In the second race, there are several to choose from but I’ve settled on John Quinn’s Seal Rock who looks well weighted considering his previous form in Ireland and in the UK. Even though his last two runs don’t instill massive confidence, he still remains the standard bearer in this one.

3.30 Plumpton Although this race would hardly get the blood rushing, it looks competitive enough.

Saint Helena hit the headlines at the beginning of September for the wrong reasons with a controversial jockey change and non runner early in the day. She comes here on the back of a poor run last time out and her current handicap mark restricts her progress slightly.

The one at the very bottom of the Handicap is Nebula Storm and it is hard to see past him in this one. He won nicely last time out on the flat at Windsor and that should set him for this one on a revised handicap mark of 79 with Jamie Moore back on board. He looks the one to beat.

4.50 Windsor Later on in the card at Windsor, a 10 runner handicap over the minimum distance provides my only other bet at the London track with Perfect Pastime at the bottom of the handicap. Softer ground is clearly what he needs and ran well enough at Brighton last week to suggest that he has a little more left in the tank for this one.

5.00 Plumpton The penultimate race is a Chase over 2 miles and a furlong with seven runners where Keychain looks very well handicaped to score for a second time in succession. He won last time with Cheekpieces on for the first time in a similar event and he won’t need to improve massively to take this one.

Although this looks quite competitive there are a few question marks over several. To The Sky looks to be the next best.
