STARS OF THE BETDAQ RACES: Daqman attempts some outsiders, ranging from 7.0 to 15.0 in the three BETDAQ-sponsored races at Windsor tonight, with his nap, Stars And Stripes, staked to act as insurance cover for all three.

DERBY DOUBLE ON SATURDAY: It’s a day of two Derbys on Saturday, the Irish Derby at The Curragh and the Pitman’s Derby, the old name of affection for the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle. And no wonder, as Daqman reveals today. Look out for his countdowns through the week.

DERBY OF DERBYS AND THE PUNTERS’ DREAM

Is this the Derby of Derbys? Just look at the roll of honour, in particular Montjeu, Galileo, High Chaparral, and the list of Irish Derby winners has two aspects which make it a championship.

It confirms to breeders the quality of the Classic colts, franking the Epsom Derby form, and that is borne out by results at stud. They are champions on the track and in the paddocks.

There are 50 left in Saturday’s Curragh contest at this stage. I’ll be checking them all out and bringing you an ABC test of the market front-runners.

On the same day, currently 87 remain for the Northumberland Plate, dubbed the Pitman’s Derby when there were pitmen around those parts.

It was a handicap the pitmen won, and northern-east punters still do. I can quote you massive gambles in the good old bad old days: Sneak Preview (1986), Stavordale (1988), Orpheus (1989), then Celeric (1996) and Far Cry (1999) in the Nineties.

All were major tilts into 9-2 or shorter, despite the massive field. This century, Bangalore (2002), Juniper Girl (2007) and the last three winners have all taken the ring for a substantial ride.

Those last three winners – Ile De Re, Tominator and Angel Gabriel, two of them favourite – will have the bookies running scared this year.

You can bet the Total SP will show a take-out of at least 25% Compare that with the 101-103% morning lists in the BETDAQ orange that gave you such value at Ascot.

FLYING BECKETT FILLY ‘COULD BE ANYTHING’

6.30 Windsor (Betdaq.com £20 Free Bet Median Auction Maiden Stakes) The last two winners of this hadn’t seen a racecourse before and SPs have recently ranged from 5-4 on to 50-1.

On the last six occasions that the field was a similar size to today’s, five of the winners were drawn 11, 12, 14, 11 and 10, going back in time.

That’s a solid signpost for Stormy Antarctic, Man Of Time, Giant Shadow, Willsy, Flying Empress and Soiree, who is by Piccolo, sire of more than 500 winners at 5f-6f.

Willsy (8.2 on BETDAQ early mouse) has done best so far. Soiree (27.0) can do better. Stormy Antartic (4.1) is best backed of the debutants but may need further.

Doing best of the trainers with his juveniles is Ralph Beckett (near on 25% strike rate), who has Qatar Racing’s Flying Empress, a 7.0 chance, related to sprinters and stayers. Has that ‘could be anything’ look, and I’ll give her a whirl.

CUMANI COLT NAPPED TO EARN HIS STRIPES

7.05 Windsor The plan for tonight was to try to find some big offers that may be wrong if the rain has fallen. And the insurance is to back Stars And Stripes in this one.

He’s been brought along slowly but there are three huge pointers for this maiden.

Stars And Stripes is by Selkirk, a soft-ground sire, and he’s trained by Luca Cumani’s stable in form. The colt’s form lines have to be only half right for him to win.

He was a good second on good to soft last autumn and runner-up again to a very smart winner at Leicester on the first of the month who went on to finish close up in the Britannia at Royal Ascot last week.

FRONT-RUNNER ARTIST MAY GET RIGHT AWAY

7.35 Windsor (Download The Betdaq+ App Handicap) Divine Law tries to land a Windsor CD four-timer, up a grade and 18lb higher than when the sequence started.

Alcatraz is up two levels from his maiden win on the soft at Chepstow, and his breeding suggests he needs rain. Showers are forecast, so a watching brief is required before giving him the bird.

Gossiping can’t be ignored, since he handled the Windsor bends well to win his maiden and, typically, was not be so effective down the straight mile at Newmarket.

Laidback Romeo has disappointed this term; The Dapper Tapper has won only on AW; but Be Bold has been dropped half a stone since last summer.

My idea of the winner is front-runner Mystic And Artist, now in cheekpieces, and with the ground possibly turning in his favour. Huge at 15.0 on BETDAQ early mouse.

He was last ridden by Martin Harley when narrowly beaten over 6f here last July in a Betdaq 3% Commission Rate Maiden. The forecast showers would be welcome.

CHORAL COULD MAKE IT SIX ON THE COURSE

8.40 Windsor (Betdaq.com 50% Comm Refund Fillies Handicap) John Bridger’s string is in good form. Choral Festival has won five times at Windsor. Her last s even successes have all been off a higher mark than this. Those wins included on firm and soft.

She surely isn’t the 10.0 outsider (it’s a small field) that the morning markets make her out to be. Tilstarr is the danger if the ground has gone on to the easy side of good.
