A MAGIC MONTH FOR DAQMAN: It’s been a fabulous February so far for Daqman, with 14 winners in three days for 116 points profit (last Thursday, Friday, Saturday), then 14 in one day (Monday) for 110 points. Here are current sequences for his special bets:

Bankers: 1111111321
Naps: 141214130
Lays: 11111111111
Value: Daqman 17, Pricewise 10

FOUR-RACE BATTLE FOR VALUE: The Daqman v Pricewise challenge always follows the races selected by the Racing Post man. Today he goes on a spree, with bets in the 1.45 and 3.25 Lingfield, the 2.55 Newcastle (Eider Chase) and 3.45 Kempton. Daqman responds with tips that include a 15.0 outsider.

EIDER KNOCKING BET: ‘HE STAYS ALL DAY’

2.55 Newcastle (Eider Chase) I previewed this race in my ABC Guide earlier in the week (see Daqman Archive), with the first four revealed as Knockanrawley, Portrait King, Wyck Hill and Shotgun Paddy.

Portrait King and Wyck Hill have both won the Eider before. Shotgun Paddy showed that he can carry a weight when, giving a stone to the winner, he was third in the Warwick Classic marathon, whereas Portrait King is up nearly a stone in little more than a month and Wyck Hill, who could do with some rain, is now 11.

I’m taking the 13.0 on BETDAQ this morning about the improver of the race, a stamina star in the making, Knockanrawley, who ‘stays all day’, according to trainer Kim Bailey, bang in form with a winner yesterday.

Three novices have been successful this century but Knockanrawley – same sire as Portrait King – could be said to have emerged from their ranks already by taking the Mandarin at Newbury in December. I take him to battle it out with Shotgun Paddy (8.0 offers)

ROCKY CREEK PANNING FOR AINTREE GOLD

2.00 Kempton (Adonis Hurdle) Henderson 3, Nicholls 3. That’s the score in the last eight years for a race which has produced three Triumph Hurdle winners this century.

Eight of the nine runners (not All Yours) have Triumph Hurdle entries, with Bivouac setting the standard and pointing up the Cheltenham favourite, Peace And Co, to whom he finished fifth on the last day. Primogeniture is one to watch when he races over further.

2.35 Kempton (Pendil Novices’ Chase) This time the score is Nicholls first (with seven wins since 2007), the rest nowhere, but only Philip Hobbs has been able to take one on from this (Captain Chris 2011) and win at Cheltenham.

God’s Own’s was drop back to novice company failed here at Kempton over Christmas, so he’s stepped back up in trip (CD winner a year ago but he’s not a horse that fills you with any confidence.

Melodic Rendezvous has come late to fences and may not match the three-years-younger Irish Saint, who doesn’t have the Sandown hill to cope with today.

3.10 Kempton (Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle) Sire De Grugy was landing a hat-trick when he took this in 2011, and Irving won it last year.

Vago Collonges should complete a quick double for Paul Nicholls. With his stamina proven, I expect him to make all over a principal opponent, Days Of Heaven, who is anything but that to ride, though the hood has calmed him down enough to take ordinary events.

3.45 Kempton Chase Punters have got this right only once in the decade, with the sole winning favourite supplied by Paul Nicholls (Gungadu 2008).

Paul will now be looking for last year’s Liverpool fifth Rocky Creek to run a better Grand National trial than Godsmejudge, Rajdhani Express and The Rainbow Hunter.

Last horse to win this and set the Aintree betting alight was Mercy Rimell’s Simon in 2007. In the big race itself, he went on a cruise. But his dream day ended six out, a faller just as he started to tackle the leaders.

This column took 19.5 Rocky Creek on BETDAQ ante-post for Aintree, and this is a big day for our bet. He doesn’t have to win, though we backed him at this stage hoping to see his price reduced.

Interesting that J P McManus’s jockey, the champion McCoy, can’t do the weight on Tap Night, a 14.0 outsider in the BETDAQ orange, early mouse. Who should take over but Richard Johnson, the man waiting in the wings for McCoy to leave the stage!

Tap Night ran up a huge rating (153) after McCoy won a novice-chase on him and he finished second to Captain Conan in the Manifesto at Aintree, and second again in the Future Champions at Ayr.

He was a nearly horse with nothing much to show for four consecutive races at Cheltenham but has ultimately crashed down the handicap to 130, off which he was a recent third, again at Cheltenham.

Chartreux, winner at the Punchestown Festival, has Barry Geraghty booked. Ardkilly Witness and Lost Legend were both Kempton winners in January. If we back Rocky Creek (9.6 offers on BETDAQ as I write), we must have a pound on stablemate Easter Day as a saver.

RIVELLINO-O-O! HE CAN SCORE AT LINGFIELD

1.45 Lingfield Trainer Karl Burke has struck form, getting 100% from his horses, according to the Racing Post computer, and he’s also struck lucky, getting the 2 stall for Rivellino, a CD winner beaten a head for this race last year. His form on the course in the last 14 months is 110321.

Marco Botti is also doing well but Foxtrot Romeo makes his debut on Polytrack, having raced only on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton in two races sandwiched around his Ayr Silver Cup fourth.

Alben Star is high in the handicap and high in the stalls. So, too, Intransigent, drawn widest of all. Go Far is 5lb above his winning mark but has Ryan Moore doing the steering.

An old pal of mine, Hallelujah hasn’t won for anyone other than Hayley Turner since June, 2011. So I’ll kick off my day with 6.8 BETDAQ offer Rivellino (Roberto himself, the man with the moustache, is ranked No 13 in Football’s Greatest on You Tube. Treat yourself).

2.15 Lingfield (Ladbrokes Handicap) Grey Mirage is only a pound higher than when winning this last year but there isn’t an ounce between Shyron and Grey Mirage, winner and runner-up over CD here recently, with Brave Echo, Brigliadorio and Related nano seconds behind them. It’s a layers race.

3.25 Lingfield (Winter Derby Trial) John Gosden tries to unseat last year’s winter king Grandeur, winner of this and the Easter Classic in 2014. Or does he? His pair are surely prepping for the Winter Derby itself.

Which do you want Maverick Wave, who is in winning form – three from three on this track – or stablemate Cloudscape, who goes well fresh and, a nearly horse at Group level, drops back to this Listed?

They are both four-year-olds and should show improvement, but so could eight-times in the first two, Grendisar, still only five, and from the stable that has won this three times since 2009. His 6.5 offers are tempting.
