DAQMAN SHORT-HEADED AT 20-1: Tough luck, to be sure! Daqman seeks out the hidden horses and yesterday found a 23.0 BETDAQ bet (form figures 0000P) but To Be Sure went down a short-head at 20-1 on the line at Exeter. A 5.1 place on BETDAQ made the bet a winner.

FOLLOW BETDAQ OFFERS: Today’s outsiders include 12.0, 15.5, 18.0, 33.0 and 38.0. The word is follow BETDAQ offers until the ‘off.’

BELLIANO BIG NICHOLLS FANCY

⭕ 1.50 Sandown (NH Novices’ Handicap Hurdle Final) Paul Nicholls has won this race here twice and also when it was run at Kempton.

The Ditcheat stable has warmed up nicely for Cheltenham this week and Paul likes to hit the Prestbury Park turf running.

Belliano is another big beast he has marked down for chasing and the plan was always to follow in the footsteps of McFabulous to this final.

It’s a tight handicap and the top two, Meetmebythesea and The Kemble Brewery, one-two at Ludlow in December, are tweaked with tongue-tie and 5lb claim respectively.

Ben Pauling has been having a great run and Meetmebythesea will benefit from the step up in distance, though The Kemble Brewery is better off at the weights.

Malinificent has been laid out for the race, lightly raced at shorter trips and Jonjo O’Neill fancies the unexposed Peso, bred to be suited by the trip.

There may also be more to come from Off The Jury after a wind op but his form figures of 243223 and RO (‘ran out last’) reveal why I will continue to avoid backing a ride of David Maxwell’s.

*Check offers now against the BETDAQ 4.8 Meetmebythesea, 5.4 Belliano, 12.0 The Kemble Brewery, 18 Peso, 26 from 40 Malinificent this morning.

33-1 ADVENTURES OF TINTINTIN

⭕ 2.25 Sandown (Imperial Cup) Go Dante tries to land an Imperial Cup double, not achieved since 1952-3 unless you count Precious Boy’s dual strike four years apart (1991 and 1994).

Go Dante off 129 had Knickerbockerglory (135) – led, weakened last – well behind last year (going soft) but that one was also runner-up the year before (going heavy) when ‘headed before the last.’

The difference today is not only in the ground but in rivals to Knickerbocker’s style: Bo Zenith, Sorceleur and We’re Red And Blue have also won from the front, while Afadil and Big Ginge are aggressive travelers.

I’ll be looking for unexposed hold-up horses aged five and six to come and get them. Rear-runner Wreckless Eric for example or Tintinin, third in the Swinton and fourth in the Greatwood, both on good ground.

Going over them all a second time (as you have to do), I reckon the ground will help Lump Sum carry the weight and boosts the chances of Afadil.

But Bo Zenith, Go Dante, Hardy Du Seuil, Knickerbocker Glory and Spirits Bay would prefer it softer, as would Batman Girac, second when a faller at the last at Leopardstown.

BETDAQ 8.7 Afadil, 12 Lump Sum, 12.5 Wreckless Eric, 18 Batman Girac, 33 Tintintin

LOCAL HERO READY FOR TRIAL

⭕ 2.45 Wolverhampton (Lincoln Trial, 1m) Last year’s one-two, separated by a head that day, meet again with the runner-up, Irish-trained Final Voyage, just a pound better off with the winner, Kingdom Come.

But neither one has been able to win a race since from a not-so-grand total of 15 starts, and with both now vulnerable to younger horses (ages 4 and 5 have won 7-10).

Acceptors for the Lincoln Handicap (March 29) with their numbers down the card at Doncaster: Two Tempting (14), Whip Cracker (21), Empirestateofmind (43), Tolstoy (47), Farasi Lane (55), Great Chieftain (63).

The last winner of this trial to run in the Lincoln was raised 5lb. Tolstoy and Great Chieftain are both with early-season-scoring stables on the Flat (turf).

They would have to win this well to get the necessary ratings hike and more for the Lincoln and similar Spring handicaps, and my best news is for Local Hero, fast finisher behind Zoffandia at Kempton.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 4.7 Whip Cracker, 6.9 Local Hero, 15.5 Great Chieftain, 38 Tolstoy

JABAARA PREPS FOR GROUP ONE

⭕ 3.20 Wolverhampton (Lady Wulfruna Listed Stakes 7f) Richard Hannon, who has won this twice in the last five years, prepped CD winner, Witch Hunter, for today in February. I can’t see him running in the Lincoln with 9st 12lb.

But Jabaara, runner-up to Coronation Stakes winner Porta Fortuna in the Falmouth, must surely be hard to beat here. Roger Varian has mapped out a Group-1 campaign.
