DAQMAN BAGS BANKER NAP: NUMBER 11 FOR 73 POINTS PROFIT: Daqman’s biggest bet in five years, since the days of ‘super bankers’, was a winner for both the Fortune Cookies and for the nap as he combined the two in a confident 30-points stake on Addeybb (WON 11-10) in the Doonside Cup at Ayr yesterday. It was winning nap number 11 in September for a profit on the month so far of 73.27 to level stakes.

38-24 UP ON PRICEWISE WITH GOLD GAMBLE 90.0 IN RUNNING: Daqman had his regular triumph in the Ayr Gold Cup with the winner and 10-1 third but, unless you count the winner’s 90.0 in running, it wasn’t his usual outsider but the gambled-on favourite, Nahaarr, produced late under a tremendous Tom Marquand drive. Nahaarr put Daqman 38-24 ahead of Pricewise and 132.51 points clear.

WON 7-2 NAHAARR (Ayr Gold Cup with Mr Lupton 3rd 10-1)
WON 11-10 ADDEYBB (Fortune Cookie and nap of the day)

WANTED: ANOTHER KERRY ‘ANGEL’

Don’t go West, young man. After the old Ayr Western Meeting, we now have seven days of the Listowel Harvest Festival (Sunday-Saturday).

A mixed-racing week with a carnival atmosphere in the West of Ireland, the festival (first run in 1858) is, in fact, the older brother of the Galway Festival (1869).

At least they’re racing at Listowel but, as with last weekend’s championships at the Curragh and Leopardstown, we remain behind closed doors. So don’t travel beyond your computer screen; follow the markets everyday in the BETDAQ orange.

Billed nevertheless as ‘serious racing, serious fun’, the festival starts with jumps this afternoon and again on Monday before a break of an afternoon on the Flat.

Wednesday is the day I like: I can’t resist a National, and remember the 2015 Kerry National putting me on the Rogue Angel meal-ticket.

Rogue Angel went on to win the Irish Grand National at 16-1 for Daqman at Fairyhouse the following Spring, and Rule The World followed up for trainer Mouse Morris by winning the Aintree National at 33-1.

Since then, Gordon Elliott has won two Kerry Nationals, and will be back on Wednesday, with one or more of four entries.

If you’re studying the form early, look for a young horse (four of the last five winners have been aged seven) with a light weight (seven of the last eight carried no more than 10st 5lb.).

Last year’s second and fourth, Ravenhill and Internal Transfer, are among the entries but Ravenhill would have to carry 16lb more after winning the NH Chase at Cheltenham in March, the last big jumps meeting before the lockdown.

Another Listowel event to look out for is the Ladbrokes Handicap (Grade B hurdle) on Friday.

Daqman had a really solid nap out of the race three years back with Willie Mullins Lagostovegas, gambled down to 5-2 favourite. He became a 10-1 Royal Ascot winner for us later on.

FORM A QUEUE FOR HARRY ‘S BAR

⭕ 1.30 Chelmsford Every day the results seem to contain a big boost for Harry’s Bar, around 2-1 on BETDAQ this morning for this Chelmsford handicap.

The horse he beat, giving 10lb, when scoring impressively over today’s Chelmsford CD in August was Admiralty, runner-up in yesterday’s Ayr Silver Cup.

Earlier last month, he ran third to a subsequent Group-3 winner who was second the last day in the Haydock Sprint (Group 1).

Before that he himself was not disgraced in a Group 3, after winning at Lingfield so that his form sequence, deleting the overambitious pattern event and the Nahaarr race which followed, is 11132313131. That’s a sequence Sir Mark Prescott would be proud of.

They say ‘back top and bottom of a handicap’ and there is Sir Mark with a prospective sequence horse, Animal Instinct, going for a hat-trick, in receipt of almost two stone from Harry’s Bar.

It makes for an intriguing contest.. and it makes a price for us on Harry’s Bar! Another plus for him is that the impressive CD win the last day was his first attempt at 7f. So, a six-time winner unexposed at the trip!

‘ROGER’ THAT DOUBLE WHAMMY..

⭕ 3.10 Hamilton The odds-on Imrahor might come off worse in a clash of Newmarket stables: his trainer, Hugo Palmer, versus Roger Varian (Marreyr).

It’s a worry that Imrahor has been absent since June 20 and a worry, too, that he had also been absent before that since last September.

Third reason to avoid backing him and contemplate a lay is that he has finished second on his only two starts.

And, fourthly, the third horse on the last day was trained by none other than Roger Varian, who should, therefore, know the time of day.

In fact, Marreyr stands out here as a 160,000gns yearling buy. I shall try a small-stakes double whammy: a back and a lay. Marreyr was 6.3 in the BETDAQ orange this morning; Imrahor 1.78 in the Lay green.

10.0? BE BRUTAL WITH THE LAYERS

⭕ 4.10 Hamilton Tim Easterby takes Brutalab back to Hamilton and down to the level of his success there in August on similar good-to-soft ground.

In the last year Brutalab is 10103100, which reduces to 1110 in class-6-only races, like today’s. So BETDAQ 10.0 looks big for a stable now on 68 winners for the year.

The favourite, Ayr Poet, 221 on the course, was Daqman’s first winning nap in September, and Kevin Stott gets the ride after his Ayr Silver Cup success yesterday.

Royal Shaheen is five in a row at Hamilton; but I’m talking about a losing sequence not a winning one! He did improve for cheekpieces the last day but will they do the trick a second time?

The mare Couldn’t Could She travels up from Epsom after winning at Windsor a fortnight ago, but they rarely put two races together at this level.

Absolute Dream hasn’t won for two years (1-17), and Armed hasn’t won.. full stop!
