BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE ON THE RACECOURSE, SAYS DAQMAN: What to make of the defeat of Altior and Bristol de Mai yesterday? Where do the victors, Cyrname and Lostintranslation, go from here? Read Daqman’s personal view and his take on today’s racing. He says: ‘It’s what you see, not what trainers tell the Press.’

WHY CYRNAME IS HERE TO STAY

Cyrname is a trojan horse. He has opened up a whole army of questions for himself and Altior after bringing that one’s 19-winners sequence to a close.

Instead of cheering the conquering hero, Cyrname was greeted like an unwanted invader on the private dreams of Altior fans who had flocked to Ascot expecting more of the same.

A disbelieving trainer, Nicky Henderson, has responded with the challenge: ’Bring on the rematch,’ claiming ‘they were fitter and better on the day.’ But in the King George?

For a trainer who admitted before yesterday’s race that he was worried about stepping Altior up from 2m to 2m 5f – quite rightly, as we now know – the very suggestion that he can get his revenge over 3m seems absurd.

He will not only have Paul Nicholls’ Cyrname to beat but also there’s the little matter of Team Tizzard’s Lostintranslation who destroyed another fantasy at Haydock yesterday, that Bristol De Mai could keep on winning the Lancashire Chase in the face of younger opposition.

From what I’ve seen (and it is what you see that counts, not what trainers tell the Press to grab the headlines), Cyrname will be the same warrior in chief in a fast-run three miles at Kempton, while Lostintranslation looks the stamina horse of the three, best suited to putting them to the sword in the Gold Cup. Altior should revert to 2m.

GET SOME CASH BACK AT NAVAN

1.00 Navan (Monksfield Novice Hurdle) Gordon Elliott had frightened off the opposition by declaring Fury Road and Abacadabras. Now only Fury Road runs at prohibitive odds.

Fury Road ran away with a Down Royal maiden over 2m 6f (it’s a quarter-mile shorter today), while Abacadabras beat a previous big-field winner over 2m here at Navan on the last day but, because that was Grade 3, would have had to give 6lb away.

2.00 Navan This beginners’ chase has thrown up Jetz, Al Boum Photo, Min, Douvan, Vautour.. need I go on. It’s A Game Changer!

Willie Mullins has won five of the last six, and the race will suit the keen-going Cash Back, who won first time last season before second to stablemate Mr Blue Sky at the Fairyhouse Festival. ‘Blue’ stays hurdling; the powerful looker, Cash Back, should find his metier over fences.

RED-HOT BULL’S-EYE BET AT 20-1

2.30 Navan (Ladbrokes Troytown Chase) This time it’s Gordon Elliott who is four from five, but he runs seven, while Willie Mullins relies solely on Redhotfillypeppers.

Deep ground at Limerick and a trip too far at Punchestown served as pathfinders for this brilliant jumper and allows the mare to slip into this handicap off only 10st 5lb.

There’s no doubt that Navan suits Chris’s Dream. He beat a dual winner since and the Kim Muir hero when taking the Ladbrokes Ten Up Novice Chase there in February.

Tower Bridge was second in the Close Brothers Listed novices at the Cheltenham Festival and has had a recent reappearance run.

Discorama was hampered when NH Chase runner-up at the festival and has also seen action again recently.

Young Paddymc, Shady Operator, De Name Escapes Me, Oscar Knight (twice placed in Nationals) and Kerry National runner-up, Ravenhill, must all be considered.

But following course form and the money on the one hand with Chris’s Dream (6.6 on BETDAQ as I write) and the potential on the other hand, when it’s a Willie Mullins’ loner at around 20-1, should see me with a Red Hot chance of success.

2.40 Uttoxeter With Henry Daly’s yard in top form, Flashjack (offers of 5.4 too big) will be fit against this modest field after a promising reappearance run.
