IT’S ETERNAL SILENCE, UNLESS..
⭕ 1.40 The Curragh (7f, 2yo fillies) Aidan O’Brien, celebrating the runaway win of Little Big Bear yesterday, could find another top 2yo player here, among the fillies this time.
He won this with subsequent Epsom Oaks winner Snowfall. Now he runs once-raced Unless, out of a Galileo mare who was sister to Churchill.
O’Brien’s nemesis of the Irish Oaks yesterday, Jessica Harrington, saddles Eternal Silence, who has a Moyglare entry but at this stage is without any track experience.
A MINSTREL DOUBLE TO ORDER
⭕ 2.10 The Curragh (Minstrel Stakes, 7f Group 2): Two colts have won this back-to-back since 2015 (Gordon Lord Byron for Tom Hogan and Romanised for Ken Condon).
Now Aidan O’Brien wants in on the act, as the entire Order Of Australia tries to follow up last year’s success under a penalty; he doesn’t have to carry one this time.
That puts him 8lb clear of most of his rivals and today also represents a drop in class after last year’s battles with the likes of Baaeed, Palace Pier and Alcohol Free, all at Group-1 level.
He led much of the way in the one-mile Queen Anne Stakes, in which the one-two 33 days ago were Baaeed and Real World. The fourth horse, Chindit, won the Sumer Mile at Ascot last week.
Just 6lb behind Order Of Australia is the mare Pearls Galore, who is also aged five but back to form with a double at odds-on over a mile this Spring, completed here at the Curragh in a Group 2.
Also a Group-2 mile winner, Real Appeal was last of five to Dr Zempf at Leopardstown on the last day but is rated on a par with Pearls Galore and his trainer, Jessica Harrington, landed a Curragh double yesterday, launched by the Irish Oaks winner.
The only three-year-old in this, Dr Zempf is unbeaten over 7f at Leopardstown this year, winning at both Listed and Group-3 level. Order Of Australia paid 12 for 10 in Betdaq Betting Exchange offers this morning.
MOORE MIGHT TRY TO MAKE ALL
⭕ 3.55 The Curragh (1m 1f fillies’ Group-2) Purplepay was never out of the frame on soft ground in France and, since she’s been moved to William Haggas at Newmarket, has been back there to win the Group-2 Sandringham at Chantilly (1m soft).
Wrapped around that were defeats in the Irish 1,000 and the Pretty Polly Stakes – both here -but she gets the 3yo’s allowance from Paddy Twomey’s Rumbles Of Thunder (gave Seisai a stone at Gowran Park) and another English raider, Sir Michael Stoute’s Potapova.
You’d think that both Haggas and Stoute, who has won this twice in the last nine years, would have been well warned before traveling that the ground will be at best ‘good’ (watered). They take their chances.
Stoute is known for improving horses at aged four and five, but there’s not much sign of that yet with Potapova, who is just 3lb higher for six races during 12 months racing. Colin Keane rides and might make a difference.
Aidan O’Brien runs three, with Ryan Moore riding the middle-distance filly, Lily Pond, who drops back in trip. Third in the Munster Oaks.
All bar one winner in the decade started in stalls 1 to 4, and I fancy Ryan Moore might try to make all on Lily Pond (gate 2), with the question mark of the race: has Purplepay (from the one stall) the ability to show a turn of foot at the business end on the better ground?

HORTON FORM ENCOURAGEABLE
⭕ 3.50 Redcar James Horton is 4-5 for an 80% strike rate at Redcar, and the jockey in his winning combo, P J Macdonald, is there today for the one ride on Encourageable, who rates the nap of the day at 2.58 on BETDAQ this morning.
Gorak was reckoned to be a stamina horse for this year, and started his season a 50-1 shot, 10th of 12, in a handicap over today’s trip. Encourageable makes his handicap debut.
