BRAVE RAID ON NEWCASTLE PRIZES: Winner-a-day Daqman is at four meetings today, with the focus on Seaton Delaval day at Newcastle, where he’s hoping to latch on to a revival by a trainer travelling 340 miles from the stable on the Sussex Downs where Dancing Brave was trained.
WEDNESDAY
WON 11-8 ROGUE MILLIONS
TUESDAY
WON 13-8 MR UBIQUITOUS (nap)
WON 2-1 GINCIDENT
MONDAY
WON 9-5 NOGO’S DREAM
ASHARIBA OR JUST FANTASY
⭕ 3.10 Newcastle David Menuisier seems to have hit form after a long spell of losers, with a winner a day Tuesday and Wednesday, both two-year-olds, his first on turf this year.
Whether his older horses can now join a revival depends on Ashariba in this all-aged 1m 2f handicap and Tribal Chief in the Seaton Delaval.
Ashariba is 2-2 on AW, part of a hat-trick that took her rating up 18lb and culminated in a class-2 strike at Newmarket, when she pipped royal runner Treasure, who had taken part in the Oaks.
Ashariba was denied a clear run at the Epsom Derby meeting, her first start of the season. BETDAQ 3.8 taken.
It’s hard to find one to trust among today’s opposition: Chelmsford specialist Wadacre Gomez, Royal Approval in first-time cheekpieces and Sea Legend (1-18) are CD winners at a lower level.
Penzance pipped Storm Catcher here 18 months back but you’d be out of pocket following them since.
Fantasy Believer landed a hat-trick last summer after a long break, and Ed Walker’s yard is buoyant after landing a Jersey and Sandringham stakes double at Royal Ascot. BETDAQ 10.0 taken.
HAGGAS HOLDS THE KEY
⭕ 3.45 Newcastle (Seaton Delaval Handicap) William Haggas bids for a hat-trick in this mile but dares to challenge the stats with five-year-old Godwinson.
The horse won’t know that only four-year-olds win the race, going way back, but he has no AW form and has never put two wins together before.
If David Menuisier is back on song, Tribal Chief will be hard to beat. Improved a stone since the autumn, twice runner-up to Bullet Point giving that one weight each time.
But Bullet Point, who shot up to a 100 rating on his Royal Hunt Cup second, is trained by the very same William Haggas!
Want another confusing ‘pointer’? Runner-up in a Group-3 race as a two-year-old, Listed winner Boiling Point was sent back into Group-3 by Roger Varian but failed to reach the frame and was moved to Karl Burke. Meanwhile, Roger runs Fantastic Fox.
I’ll be with Menuisier again, assuming that he’s been laying out his horses for this time. BETDAQ 5.9 Tribal Chief, saver 2.98 Godwinson.
VELVET SMOOTH OVER 7f
⭕ 4.10 Newmarket The July Course today launches five meetings through to July 12, which will feature the Falmouth Stakes and the July Cup.
It has big-field handicaps which are ‘honest’ (mainly no bias) so more difficult for punters: give me Chester for betting benefits like the effect of the draw, though the tea-party atmosphere on the July Course is the best in England bar Goodwood.
If it’s really hot, I’d rather stay home and Cogitate (Charles Hills loves to hand out lessons to the Newmarket trainers, as did his father, Barry, before him).
But, for a bit of instant karma, I’ll support a 20-1 shot, Royal Velvet, a short-running miler, who will enjoy this return to 7f. I took 4.6 a place.
Trainer William Knight was so unlucky to miss out by less than a length, when Holkham Bay raced up the rails without any company in the Wokingham last week.
THRILLER IN THE SPRINT
⭕ 7.15 Hamilton Interesting that Paul Mulrennan rides for Mark Walford (Kodiac Thriller) when he’s been doing so well for Jim Goldie (Classy Al).
A 5.1 Betdaq Betting Exchange offer, Kodiac Thriller’s form has been strong since dropping down from his 6f-7f career, winning well over the Thirsk ‘five’ but eye-catching raised to class 2 at York, when Bergerac and Jm Jungle finished just in front of him under a 3lb claimer.
Brooklyn Nine Nine failed to take advantage of Bergerac’s giving him 10lb here at Hamilton 11 days back.
Vantheman has kept good company but it’s nearly a year since he won a race. Kalik is on the upgrade and could threaten if the rains came.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
