SYKES TO THE RESCUE: Richard Johnson came to the rescue yesterday for Daqman providing him with a winner on his final bet of the day, Sykes (WON 9-4).

NOTABLE IRISH CONTINGENT IN SCOTLAND: There are several runners making the trip across the Irish Sea to the races at Musselburgh today. Daqman has one of note at the meeting along with his finest selections at today’s other Jumps meeting.

LION TO ROAR UP NORTH

2.05 Musselburgh Novices Hurdle at the minimum trip with two of note. Richard Fahey makes a rare appearance at a jumps meeting with Innocent Touch but the Irish trained Winter Lion makes more appeal to me.

Innocent Touch is first time over hurdles and gets a weight allowance. Rated at 86 on the flat, he was obviously useful enough but I think he will need to prove quite decent to win this.

Winter Lion won a Maiden at Punchestown in October and has already achieved a handicap rating of 116 on the back of that. That’s going to be a tough act to follow here and was rated as high as 81 on the flat with wins in some nice races. He took well to hurdling last time and could prove a tough nut to crack here.

3.05 Musselburgh This is an odd race. There are big doubts about several and I have narrowed to two, Andhaar and Maraweh.

St Quintin is due to be dropped 3lbs for his next so hard to think that he could be anything but badly handicapped for this. Solway Prince was beaten with ease off the same mark last time and Craigdancer needs really quick summer ground.

Andhaar was a clear second last time out, failing to follow up his win the time before. He escaped a penalty last time as it was only two after his win but falls into the rules now which sees him 9lbs higher.

Maraweh on the other hand is dropping back down in class having run in a Class 2 last time over an inferior trip when missing out on a hat-trick. He moves back up to just short of three miles for this, back in a more appropriate standard and he looks to be the one.

GREAT CHOICE AT TOWCESTER

2.25 Towcester It’s really hard to look past the David Pipe runner here.

Despite being top weight, Great Choice has by far the best form in what looks a relatively weak race. It’s his first run since March but the Pipe runners are never known to be lacking in fitness. Although he’s without a win so far in his career, this looks to be a perfect opportunity to get off the mark.

2.45 Market Rasen Final bet of the day and could be another for the savior, Richard Johnson. He teams up with a yard in form, Charlie Longsdon on No No Mac in a decent looking Novice Handicap Chase.

No No Mac and Father Edward set the standard on their hurdling form, both rated 130+. Both are making their debut over the larger obstacles but the form of No No Mac’s hurdle runs appeal a little more.

Kingswell Theatre is also of note but may be better over further in his first run since March.
