THREE MEETINGS – THREE SELECTIONS: Daqman keeps it simple today with one selection from each of Tuesday’s cards at Taunton, Market Rasen and Wolverhampton.
FIVE GROUP 1 CHAMPIONS: Ascot announced today that QIPCO British Champions Day will become the first British raceday to stage five Group 1 races following the upgrade of the QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup. The October card will also feature a new £250,000 race for two-year-olds.
LET’S HAVE ANOTHER
⭕ 2.05 Taunton Ask Me Another was impressive in April when beating Rockola by seven lengths but then found the same rival two lengths too good when the form was reversed at Huntingdon over a half mile longer trip.
Ask Me Another may well have needed the run after a 268 day break and she still rates the most progressive in this line up with the drop back in trip hopefully helping.
Handicap debutant Don’t Tell Rosie is making her fourth consecutive appearance here and only showed a modicum of ability last time out. She doesn’t really help her cause by running too freely and a bigger danger may come from Holeshot.
This one is up and trip and down two levels on the class ladder having finished a creditable runner-up at Wincanton in November. He is unproven over this longer trip but shapes as though it will suit.
PUT A SOC IN IT
⭕ 4.27 Market Rasen With question marks against his main two Betdaq Betting Exchange rivals Onesoc looks to have great chance of following up on his Catterick success last week under the statutory 7lb penalty.
Over an almost identical trip and ground conditions he sauntered to a seven and a half length success which could easily have been tripled given the comment in running has him ‘winning in a canter’.
There didn’t seem to be any excuses for the odds-on runner-up Ideallko that day and Onesoc’s trainers Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith are definitely striking whilst the iron is hot and before the handicapper no doubt has a more punitive say.
Bread And Butter is 0-8 over fences and looks infinitely better over the smaller obstacles whilst Captain Ivan showed more at Ayr last time out but has never convinced over anything much beyond the minimum trip.
AND FOR SWEET ….
⭕ 7.00 Wolverhampton I thought there was an opportunity to oppose the short priced favourite City Of God who made all to win at Southwell last week but was doing his best work at the end so I’m not sure the drop back from a mile to seven furlongs will help on handicap debut.
In contrast, the more experienced Sweet Fantastic defied a wide draw to win over this seven furlong trip at Kempton in January and his form just has a more solid look to it. At around double the odds of the favourite there’s only one way I can play it.
