TODAY: PRESS QUOTES GET LOST IN TRANSLATION: Daqman’s cynical view of pre-race trainer quotes in the Press. Could what they say (in black type) really mean something else?

TOMORROW: SECRETS OF THE FORM BOOK: Daqman reveals hidden gold in the form-book analysis of races. What racereaders’ comments mean to you as a punter. Don’t let these get lost in translation.

TOMORROW’S RACING: Look out for race-by-race assessment of the form for the four BETDAQ-sponsored evening races on the AW surface at Kempton Park

THURSDAY-SUNDAY: DAQMAN THE BIG HITTER: There’s a feast of big races for Daqman to plunder after his 20-1 and 14-1 Hennessy day winners: the Silver Buck Chase, the Devon Marathon, the Future Stars Chase, the Becher Chase, the Tingle Creek, the Grand Sefton, London National and John Durkan.

LOST IN TRANSLATION: DAQMAN’S CYNICAL VIEW OF PRE-RACE STABLE QUOTES

REAPPEARANCE RUN: He came in later than the others: He’s a stone better horse for this season but doesn’t need much work and we didn’t want to expose him on the gallops.

He’s been working with exuberance: He’s running away with his work rider and will be far too fresh this afternoon. He needs this race to settle him down.

TARGET RACE: This will tell us where to go with him: He’s a two-miler but a couple of runs over three will get his weight lower and his odds higher.

He is not well handicapped: I’ve blown it. Didn’t even get our money on. One win for a measly couple of grand and we’ll have to wait another year until the handicapper forgets.

He’s up against experienced handicappers today: He’ll win when we drop him back to novice company in two weeks’ time.

If the real horse turns up, he has a great chance: He’s gone! And I have no idea what to do with him, but the owner spends money on training bills like water.

We have the National in mind for this one: He’s slower than the Northern Line so we’ll aim at a ridiculous target, then the owner won’t ask why he’s not running any races.

We’re not afraid to take them on again We did our money so next time we’ll lay him.

STABLE SELECTED: I run three, and all have a chance: One’s here to keep the owner happy. One doesn’t like the ground, the trip or the track. One’s hidden by the two others.

I’m sure it was a tough choice for my jockey: We told him which one to ride.

Of course, we haven’t worked them together: They all galloped together on Wednesday night after evening stables but it was so dark by then not even I know which one was best.

He surprised us first time out: When we saw the price, we just had to go for it.

HOOFNOTE: When Rishi Persad comes in after riding in the St Patrick’s Day Derby at Cheltenham in March, will someone please ask him, as he and his horse stagger to the unsaddling: ‘How do you feel?” Get the mic out and plunk it under his nose, Alice!

TODAY’S RACING: TRAVIS COUNTY NAPPED ON McCOY’S DAY AT SEDGEFIELD

The whole novice-chase structure needs change. We’ve seen poor fields at Ascot, Cheltenham and Newbury in the last month or so, and another £7,000 hardly looks well spent at Sedgefield this afternoon.

In fact, something’s gone wrong with the whole structure of the winter sport, if I find myself writing about a three-horse race as the feature of the day. I could knock in 100 winners a month with ease a few years ago.

Now at least two days a week are such dross, the screen is littered with odds-on favourites and even Une Artiste like Tony McCoy can get beaten on them.

Rev It Up (1.30) is clear in the ratings but his 127 – and more – was earned two years ago, and he’ll need to bounce back in first-time visors after a floperoo of a start at Chepstow in October.

He was forecast favourite by the trade paper (11-10 Rev It Up, 5-4 Bit Of A Jig) but it’s 4-5 Bit of A Jig at the front of the BETDAQ market as I write.

BETDAQ makes punting easy for us (offers on the three add up to only 101%) but it’s still pure guesswork as to whether Rev It Up is back in the game against a consistent sort, but no great shakes, in Bit Of A Jig.

The grey Dakar Run (1.00) is probably a better odds-on chance than Bit Of A Jig, with Tony McCoy doing the steering.

McCoy takes over on the keen-going Travis County (2.00), who is down a grade and down in weight, with his rating revised from 111 down to 103.

I’m afraid the cynical naming (fits nicely with my pre-race quotes!) of W Six Times (2.30) is misplaced. Waited With, Will Win When Wanted is more of an epitaph than an epithet for this slow beast.

Six times he’s completed, but trainer Alistair Whillans has not yet placed him to win. They’re still waiting, with tailed off, tailed off, fell his last three runs.

There’s yet another odds-on shot here, as I write over my cornflakes: Beaumont’s Party is short based almost entirely on his Flat form and because McCoy rides again.

The 12.0 bar on BETDAQ this morning had me searching for value against him for my Outsider Of The Day. I’ll have my pound on Next Hight, once sent Group-racing on the Flat in Germany and first time in a handicap for Sue and Harvey Smith at 14.0.

I was going for Wintered Well, but he’s out. A different case of W Six Times: Waited With, Won’t Win When Withdrawn.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 20 points).
