FIVE WINNING NAPS IN A ROW: Daqman has now landed winning naps on five days out of six (one non-runner), with yesterday’s, Statutory (WON 4-5 SP), at odds against on BETDAQ in the morning, as so often happens. The five are:

WON 4-6 BRAVO ZOLO (banker)
WON 1-4 GERMANY CALLING (banker)
WON 4-11 HIGH SECRET (banker)
WON 16-5 FOUND
WON 4-5 STATUTORY

BEST BET AND DOUBLE UP: Daqman picked in four races and earned four returns, doubling the best bet, Statutory, with Oceanographer (WON 6-4), and named as place bets Hostile Fire (3rd 10-1 from 13.5) and Mythical City (2nd 5-1 from 7.0)

FIRE SHIP 4.6 LEICESTER VALUE NAP

Every little helps. A somewhat ironic remark in supermarket circles these days but Richard Hannon and John Gosden are happy to fill their baskets, traveling for modest returns in the battle for champion trainer, though it already seems won by Team Hannon.

It’s never over until the fat lady sings, but the Hannons have 12 runners today against Gosden’s six, numerically superior as well as boasting fire power for the final big races. King Richard 11 seems certain to take the crown from King John.

BRIGHTON The Hannon banker today would appear to be Aledaid (3.20), an odds-on chance this morning, closing even as I check the orange.

What has Aledaid in common with Treve? Well, he’s been beaten favourite in all three starts this season, as she had before Sunday’s Arc.

The difference is class. We are 46lb lower here and horses at this level don’t run to order, rarely reproducing the same form twice.

Aledaid will be suited by the step up in trip and has the three races of experience behind her, but it’s very unlike Team Hannon to have them at the front of the grid and not get a winning tune from the engine. I would not describe patience as one of their virtues with two-year-olds.

Resonant didn’t enjoy being held up on the last day and was still green when trying to make all first time up. I doubt Aledaid can catch him here, if he’s let loose.

Last year’s winner, Koharu (1.50), running off the same official mark, is 310142 at Brighton, improving to 112 if you restrict the form figures to sprints on the course, one of the wins when ridden by today’s pilot, Declan Bates.

The grey filly has a wide draw in 14 but stall 12 didn’t stop her a year ago, and she came back to form at Epsom last month, within a length of the winner at the finish.

Last year’s runner-up, Bloodsweatandtears (3.50), starts off the same mark this afternoon but claimed off to the tune of 7lb., which reduces his burden to a pound below his last winning rating.

Bloodsweatandtears won over CD after a long break last year and the forecast showers will bring him into play at 11.5 on BETDAQ this morning.

LEICESTER The showers are deemed essential for Fire Ship (4.10) – BETDAQ offers of 4.6 this morning – though he has, in fact, won on a sound surface. Seven long-term losers in this share 81 defeats since their last success.

So a horse like former Group-3 winner Fire Ship, dropping out of the Pattern, ought to be able to pick up the prize, with the only recent winner, Dark Emerald, the danger.

Gosden’s Star of Seville (2.10) leapfrogged the paper favourite, Intimation, this morning and there was another early-mouse indicator in the second division of this divided race.

They offered 9.0 bar Sympathy (2.40), a Highclere Throughbreds filly coming out of a race of winners. One for the Daq Multiples.

Serena Grae (3.10) is nothing if not game and only when raised to class 3 has she missed the frame in seven starts this year, three of them wins.

Her trainer, Marcus Tregoning, has a similar current record – eight in a row in the first three – and the grey filly looks like a solid win-and-place bet at 10.5 this morning.

KEMPTON A good performance from Serena Grae would be a pointer to King Calypso (8.05), whom she beat at Goodwood.

King Calypso – 5.7 offers this morning – is on nine consecutive returns in the frame and returns to his favourite course (2-2 here among 3-3 on AW). Cam Hardie booked.
