8-1 IN WINNERS HAT-TRICK: Daqman, who won four races in a row on Saturday, including a 7-1 winner, landed a hat-trick yesterday, one of them 8-1. He won more than 120 points in those two days. Yesterday’s trio (a fourth selection was second) was:

WON 8-1 MON BEAU VISAGE
WON 15-8 SEA THE SKIES
WON 8-11 SOAPY AITKEN (banker)

BACK-TO-BACK BANKERS UP: It was Daqman’s second successive banker, following Telescope (WON 8-13) and he’s 31-6 ahead of Pricewise value bets in feature races chosen by his rival on the Racing Post (next challenge date, Goodwood Thursday). So short prices or long, Daqman’s the man to follow.

IT’S A RIGHT ROYAL WAY TO LOSE YOUR MONEY

Weather forecasts are worse than racing form. Searching for some answers for Royal Ascot, I picked established names in the forecasting business and got:

A: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday Royal Ascot week: sunny, sunny, sunny, 16-17 centigrade.
B: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday Royal Ascot week: rain, then a shower; very windy, rain; windy with rain; 18-19 centigrade.

Verdict: Don’t have anything to do with Ascot ante-post books until nearer the time and, then, spend your form-study hours on the handicaps, where the pre-race money is to be made.

That’s partly because you don’t know the state of the weather (nor do the forecasters, it seems), so you don’t know the ground conditions, but also because the races they are advertising are Group races, which are mostly go to the ratings.

The Gold Cup has had only one winner bigger than 7-1 SP in the decade. Seven favourites won between 13-8 on and 7-2, all predictable winners in the weeks before the race. So why put up huge outsiders now?

All you are doing is spending any edge in percentages you might achieve on the day, when you choose from among the first three favourites.

Many punters are still wounded by the election forecasters. It still seems incredible that they actually ask the people who vote and still get it wrong.

Maybe those they canvassed were playing their cards close to their chest. That’s what betting is all about.

Ignore the odds the bookies offer; bet with the odds you decide that you can offer or take in a fair exchange on BETDAQ. It’s the best tip yet for Royal Ascot.

STAMPEDE FOR STOUTE AT CHELMSFORD TONIGHT

2.00 Nottingham Team Hannon has won this twice with outsiders (16-1 and 10-1) in the last four seasons, and Papa Luigi has already shown up well on the East Everleigh gallops: 7.2 on BETDAQ early mouse.

The saver is Shanghai Glory, placed though green at Windsor, with the filly who finished immediately behind him going in by a wide margin next time.

3.30 Nottingham There’s a really talented filly making her handicap debut here. David Simcock reckons Cartier can take a nice prize this year: around 5.0 this morning.

Snag is the weather forecast (who are these guys?) for thunderstorms and whatever else the heavens can chuck at Colwick Park.

Cartier might have the class to deal with it, and her sire’s progeny have a high strike-rate on heavy ground. Melodious and Perceived have already won at Nottingham on the soft, so I’ll reduce my stake.

But, if I miss a horse I want to follow, and it wins first time, my response will not be perceived melodious!

4.20 Newcastle With thunderstorms forecast (here we go again!), Rayadour (15.5 on BETDAQ as I write) might be an interesting outsider today.

Trainer Micky Hammond is in fine form (including two winners from his last four starters) and Graham Lee, who won this race last year on Jan Smuts, switches to Rayadour.

7.50 Chelmsford They’re clearly struggling with the maiden Royal Flag – visor tried now – and it’s significant that Sir Michael Stoute has kept Stampede in training for Highclere.

This is Stampede’s first run since being gelded but he won a race at this time last year and has Cam Hardie, Chelmsford’s leading jockey percentage wise (44%), in the saddle.

BET 8pts win (nap) STAMPEDE (7.50 Chelmsford)
