New Year’s Day EPL Betting: It was a stunning 5 of 6 run last weekend here at Tipster HQ and New Year’s Day offers lots for the punters. It’s time to find some winners.
The match of the day is a London derby featuring Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. Spurs have been most un-Spurs like of late, delivering in the type of games they often can’t help throwing away. The evening game on New Year’s Day however presents a massive challenge as Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea look to get their procession to the title back on track.
There is value all over the board here and even Chelsea’s outright price of 1.81 is reasonable. This corner however likes to do a touch better than that so it’s time to think about how the visitors will try to control this one. I like Spurs to start with some vigour but Chelsea have the talent to catch them on the counter and punish them big time. Don’t be surprised if Spurs get on the board in this match but the total goals isn’t where I see the best bet. Instead it’s backing Chelsea to go ahead early and hold on to the end. Take Chelsea/Chelsea on the half-time/full time at 2.7 for the best value in this one.
The early game sees Man United make the trip to Stoke. I’ve checked the calendar, it’s a Thursday so the wet Wednesday rule doesn’t apply here. The big bonus for bettors here is that even a full season and a half since Tony Pulis left, Stoke City still get tremendous respect from bettors when playing at home. That bodes well in this one as I don’t fancy the home side to keep it together for the full 90 minutes against a United side that has shown it can score when it needs to. Take Man United at 2.04 for the win here.
Finally we take a look at the top game on the main afternoon slate. Ronald Koeman has worked miracles with Southampton and a top four finish is still well within their control. New Year’s Day however should spell a big turning point in their season and not for the better. Bettors know that in January Arsenal surge before their big February let-down. Well the new year is here and at utterly fantastic value I can’t walk away from the Gunners. The dream for Southampton starts to die today. Back Arsenal at 2.66
