NEWMARKET TOMORROW FOR THE CESARAWITCH: I just have one ride tomorrow but it’s a nice race to be riding in as I ride Communicator in the Cesarawitch.

This is always a tough race and quite a lot of the time the jumps trainers come to fore in the race and I think David Pipe has a good chance with Low Key. Tony Martin and Gordon Elliot have runners coming over from Ireland and they’re obviously feared as well, especially Tony Martin’s because he had so many entered in the race.

My own ride, although he’s not well drawn, I don’t think he should be as big as he is in the betting. He’s run well in some big handicaps before and he ran well to be fourth in the November Handicap last year.

His last run behind Steve Rogers was quite a good run and he’s been dropped a pound by the handicapper so that should help as well. The only issue, as I say, is that we’re drawn in 32 and it isn’t ideal because we’ll be out so wide so I’ll have to do my best to get a good position. It’s a long run from the start to the bend so hopefully I’ll have a bit of time to get a position.

I’ve actually won on Communicator previously, when he was trained by Michael Bell so hopefully we can go close tomorrow.

The Dewhurst is obviously the big race tomorrow and it looks like a really good race. It does appear to be between Air Force Blue and Emotionless but these two look like they are the stand out two year colts this year.

Air Force Blue was very good when he won last time at The Curragh, he won that very easily. The only fear I would have about that is Herald The Dawn finished just behind him in The Curragh but then ran poorly in Longchamp so the form may be a little suspect.

Emotionless has been incredibly impressive in his wins so far and I think he will win again. There is very strong word for him and he looks very exciting. His win in the Champagne Stakes in Doncaster was really eye catching and I think it will take a good horse to beat him.

DON’T LOSE FAITH IN HALLELUJAH

Although we finished down the field, Hallelujah actually ran a very good race. She really needed the race and just got tired near the finish. I certainly won’t be losing faith in her and you shouldn’t either. I think she might be aimed now for a good handicap in Doncaster in a couple of weeks time so hopefully she’ll go there in good form. I’ll keep you posted on her next target.

I was gutted on Wednesday to get beaten on Cabinet Room for Lady Cecil. We were only beaten a nose but we nearly knicked it at the finish! I think he’s probably run again and he’ll be worth keeping an eye on next time and he should be able to get in front then.

Last Saturday in Ripon, I was looking forward to riding Orvar in the big Sales race there but he just ran very flat. There was very life in him when he got into the race. He’s done quite a lot of travelling and he’s had a couple of hard races so it had obviously just taken a lot out of him.

It’s always hard to know when they’ve gone over the top like that because they will generally work even better at home and then they get to the track and have nothing left and it’s impossible to see it.

Looking ahead to next week and Clockmaker should be an interesting ride coming back to the All Weather.

The ground hasn’t been in his favour in his last couple of runs but he’s still run quite well each time even still. His Handicap mark is also very attractive on the All Weather as he runs off just 75 with his turf mark off 84.

It’s a long time since it happened, but he has won on the All Weather previously so I’m hoping he’ll have another good run there on Tuesday.

Another one for Tuesday is Kingstreet Lady for Richard Price. She’s due a win at this stage as she’s run well in some nice Maidens and was fifth in Chepstow last time on her handicap debut so hopefully she can run well again as well.

On Thursday then, Tancred is entered for Conor Dore at Brighton. This seems to be where he does all his winning as he won there the other when I was suspended so hopefully he can follow that up next week. The ground doesn’t seem to bother him too much and that’s a big thing at this time of year so he’s another that I’m looking forward to riding.

Hopefully I’ll have some more winners to chat about next week but in the meantime, enjoy the racing and there’s a big weekend next week at Ascot.
