PREVIEW

One of the many fascinating FA Cup fixtures over the weekend is the Midlands derby between Birmingham and Wolves. Even though there’s now a league separating the clubs, the atmosphere inside St Andrews should be electric.

Birmingham have not found Championship life as easy as hoped and at the halfway stage of the season the side are 14th in the table. Chris Hughton will be reminding his side that they are only five points off the play-off places and a derby win would be a huge boost to the squad.

Inconsistencies have been the main reason for Blues not being closer to the play-off contenders, but their form at home remains impressive. Blues have won three of their past six here and they have yet to lose a league game at St Andrews this term.

Wolves were just seconds away from claiming a point against Chelsea last time out and Mick McCarthy’s side had previously had a solid festive run by picking up three draws on the spin. One of those came at the Emirates, so Wolves won’t have any fear ahead of today’s contest.

A low-scoring game looks on the cards as Blues have conceded only four in their past six home games, while Wolves haven’t scored more than a goal in a game across three fixtures.

With Blues’ strength at home, I fancy a draw here and then Wolves to reach the fourth round after a replay at Molineux.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back the draw at around 3.3: 5 points

Friday’s Return: +5.74
