PREVIEW
Scotland have qualified for eight World Cups but have never yet gone beyond the first round. They kick off their 2014 campaign this afternoon with a tricky match against Serbia as they bid to make their first Finals since 1998.

With the likes of Croatia and Belgium also lurking in Group A it is imperative that Scotland can turn Hampden Park into a fortress or they risk slipping out of contention for a top-two finish early. Craig Levein’s men have made real progress over the last year or so and can boast five wins and three draws from their last ten games – a great improvement when we consider the dark days of Berti Vogts.

Serbia were a pretty useful outfit themselves a few years ago and have made the last two World Cups. However, despite an abundance of quality, they have largely been disappointing on the biggest stage and are on a woeful recent run of form. They have won just two of their last ten matches, against minnows Armenia and the Faroe Irelands. They have lost five of those games and could only muster a draw versus Cyprus in one game.

It’s not often Scotland are favourites for any game but this time the market has it spot on and they look the call at around 2.7 on BETDAQ.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
