Athletic Bilbao are available at 4.2 on BETDAQ to land the Europa League this year after two stunning performances against Manchester United. Bilbao were utterly dominant across the two legs in the last 16 stage and they now prepare to face German club Schalke 04. The Germans reached this stage with a 4-2 aggregate win over FC Twente, with four of those goals coming at home in the second leg.

Schalke have won their past four games across all competitions coming into this game and their current form has seen them rise to third in the Bundesliga. Huub Stevens’ side have been dominant at home all season with only two defeats there in the league all season. From 14 home league games Schalke have won on eleven occasions with the second highest home goals total since August.

Since handing United a humbling defeat in the previous round, Bilbao have failed to win their past three matches. That run includes two defeats and means they have won only once in six La Liga games. Bilbao are now five points off the final European spot, so if they don’t improve domestically then winning the Europa League might be their best way back next year.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were well beaten in their last away European game and another loss looks likely given Schalke’s home form. My advice would be to back the Germans to win the opening leg at around 2.19 on BETDAQ.
