MORNING BRIEF: Here we pick out a couple of horses running later today who you should keep your eye on. Rizg was a 4/1 winner yesterday for the service from just two bets!

🏇 Triple Time

Eyecatcher Triple Time returns to Haydock (6.22) in an effort to break his maiden tag at the third time of asking this evening. After showing plenty of promise on his debut at Leicester in June, he went off a well backed 6/4 favourite in a Haydock novice one month later but he couldn’t reel in the all-the-way winner Mr McCann, eventually finishing a 2¾ length second to the Tom Dascombe trained colt. It was clearly a good novice as the winner has since run with great credit in group and listed company whilst the third and fifth placed horses have both won subsequently. The son of Frankel won’t have it easy here as the penalised top weight Taj Alola won well on his debut at Catterick just over a fortnight ago and Thunder Legend ran a race full of promise at Newmarket 13 days ago when staying on nicely into fourth place behind Modern Games. Bababobo ran well to finish second to a decent type in Sed Maarib last time and Forward Flight performed well on debut when fifth to the very useful looking Bayside Boy at Newbury. When all said and done Triple Time has no easy task here and it’s anybody’s guess how he will cope with any potential softening of the ground, but he brings a progressive profile to the race and connections will be hoping he can get off the mark at the third time of asking.

🏇 Makram

When winning a 1m 2f handicap at Sandown on Coral Eclipse Day, Makram recorded the fastest time of the day. This performance earned the son of Make Believe a very respectable speed rating figure of 75 and given that this was only the ninth race of his life then he can reasonably be expected to find more improvement and particularly now as connections have decided to step him up in trip to 12 furlongs. The other 1m 2f handicap run on the card on Eclipse Day saw Wink Of An Eye race to success and in doing so he recorded a time some 1.4s slower than that recorded by Makram. Wink Of An Eye has since come out and defied a 7lb hike in the weights by taking a competitive handicap at last week’s Goodwood Festival. To put this into some context, Makram recorded a much faster time when winning his handicap and he comes here (Newmarket 6.38pm) having to defy just a 4lb rise in the weights. The comparison is a little tenuous and he won’t find it easy as any of the six runners could easily win this tight handicap but the case for Makram is strong. And if he does relish the step up in trip as his breeding suggests that he might, then he could prove hard to beat under James Doyle who keeps the ride following that Sandown success.
