Oh, what a night, late August back in ’15
What a very special time for me
As I remember what a night!
Oh what a night,
You know I didn’t even know her name
But I was never gonna be the same
What a lady, what a night!

Getting the ole tunes in early today, what a bloody night. I was buzzin’ Saturday, the results were exceptional, exciting, nail biting and nearly as stressful as that Dublin v Mayo match yesterday in Croke Park. Did anyone ‘not’ watch the match? Holy God, it wasn’t good for my heart nor my Dad’s. We were seven points clear at one stage, it was a messy, stop/start game of football. I mean what has happened to the old style game of football? You can barely touch a lad now on the field and the ref is blowing on his whistle. A good hard core game of football is what we need and if we get to the Final I think Kerry will be very hard to beat after what I witnessed yesterday. Shane Dowling might be right, go handy Sarah he said to me after my confident comments about Kerry having something to worry about. Still living the dream though.

Where do I begin? The Derby heats on Saturday night for me were the best yet. The under dogs are really coming into themselves now and improving each week, the likes of Tyrur Tommy, Cable Bay and Samiya. Farloe Blitz ran a very tired looking dog I thought and so did Ballydoyle Honey who was knocked out. It’s about time I start looking at these outsiders instead of the obvious favourites. I mean Ballymac Matt can’t get trap every week surely so there is every chance he can still get beaten, though my 10/1 bet on him to win outright is still looking great. I thought Samiya was brilliant and Peregrine Falcon ran a cracker, he loves that trap one. Its wide open, its exhilarating and I am counting down the days until I can go see the quarter finals.

The stadium was packed, I was on the gin and tonic with Val Bray who was absolutely hopping around the place after her son in laws dog won, Peregrine Falcon. ‘Home on your own boy’ she shouted from the stand and that’s exactly what he did, by three and a half lengths in 29.50 and at a pretty price of 7/4. Graham Holland had a roller coaster night of emotions, Gaytime Hawk won, Sidarian Vega was third but Ballydoyle Honey missed out and finished fourth. He also still has Jo Jo Fantasy there so Graham has a very strong hand in this years Derby. Who is going to win? Who is going to be crowned the champion? Who will be the top trainer? Muhammad Ali once said, “Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill, and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.”

Make sure you free yourself up this Saturday, the quarter finals of the 2015 Boylesports Greyhound Derby take place and Dublin take on Mayo again in the replay at 17:00 in Croke Park so make sure you leave early to avoid traffic. It’s going to be a brilliant weekend of sport and I can’t wait.

I will sign off with this joke I heard from a friend in the local pub last night after the match, bare in mind many gins were consumed at this stage!!!

Harry walked over to the Priest after services, “You know Father, I am really stuck in a quandary I would like to attend church next week but I just can’t miss the big game next Sunday, it’s just out of the question.” “Oh Harry Harry” said the Priest putting his arm around Harry, “don’t you know? that’s what recorders are for.” Harry’s face lit up “you mean I could record your sermon?”

See you all Saturday, I’ll be the one in blue.

Over and out.
