11/8 WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK landed an 11/8 winning nap at Leopardstown last night with the impressive Sanus Per Aquam in the opener.
Sanus Per Aquam ran out an impressive winner of the opener at Leopardstown last night for Kevin Manning and Jim Bolger to land my nap and only bet of the day.
He went off second favourite at 11/8 but soon put the race to bed and scooted four and three quarter lengths clear of the market leader Port Douglas.
Bolger said after the race: “I would have liked another week or 10 days, but he ran tonight as I wanted another run into him before the Futurity. He can go anywhere. I didn’t do anything with him since the Curragh. I took it on trust and let him look after himself. He’s Teofilo reincarnated. He does everything he does and does it the same way. That’s where he’s at at the moment except he’s two weeks ahead of the father.”
Bolger also looks to have a strong chance in today’s Qipco Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket with Lucida who was runner-up to Legatissimo in the 1000 Guineas over the Rowley Mile course here and then went on to finish a close-up third to French raider Ervedya at Royal Ascot in the Coronation Stakes. There’s another strong French challenge in today’s race but Lucida looks the class act.
A lay for me today is Lady Allegra in the 6.35 at Navan. She is out again quickly having finished a good second on debut at Fairyhouse but I am surprised to see her dropped back in trip as I thought, if anything, she needed further. There are a couple of interesting debutants in this field too.
