GALWAY ON FRIDAY: Day five of the Galway Festival and SHAMROCK is back with a preview of all seven races. He tipped up the winner of the big race of the week yesterday – QUICK JACK WON 9/2 in the Galway Hurdle.

A recommended lay on Rock The World (2nd 9/10) and Tested (2nd 2/1) was backed up with win bets on Quick Jack WON 9/2 in the Galway Hurdle and next best Prince D’aubrelle WON 7/4 but the nap was a disappointment on Thursday.

Seven races on Friday

5:10 Guinness Handicap Hurdle (4yo+, 2m, 16 runners)

A really tough starter for punters. Bank Bonus ran well here earlier in the week when second to Powersbomb but I’d be a little concerned about the step back to the two mile trip. The same stable are represented by Tempo Mac who also arrives here in good form and is onto a hat-trick after wins at Bellewstown and Cartmel. Before that he was second to Lilly The Lioness at Wexford – and that form has obviously taken a boost this week.

5:45 Guinness 17:59 E.B.F. Median Auction Maiden (2yo, 7f, 11 runners)

No winners for Dermot Weld on Thursday although in fairness Tested ran a big race. He saddles Palmetto Dunes here who should take a great deal of beating. He was a well beaten third of four on his debut at Leopardstown (7 furlongs) but that has turned out to be a decent contest with the winner Sanus Per Aquam going on to finish a close second to Deauville in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes back at Leopardstown. With normal improvement from debut Palmetto Dunes should prove hard to beat in this company.

6:15 Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase (4yo+, 2m 6f 111y, 23 runners)

Last year’s winner Aranhill Chief is back for more – he was completing his second win at the 2014 Galway Festival when holding on by a head to take this but doesn’t seem in the same form coming into this years race. Never Complain is a speculative place bet. Henry de Bromhead’s chaser ran well at Down Royal when second to Elegant Statesman last time out and was previously an easy winner at Tipperary.

6:50 Guinness Handicap (3yo+, 1m 3f 180y, 15 runners)

Clondaw Warrior was a Royal Ascot winner for Willie Mullins but his success came in the Ascot Stakes over 2m 4f and this represents a massive drop back in trip for him. The Mick Halford trained Shadagann is more of a regular at this distance and he won a decent handicap at the Curragh last time. He can be competitive again despite being hiked a further 4lb up the weights.

7:25 Guinness E.B.F. Maiden (3yo+, 1m 3f 180y, 9 runners)

Dermot Weld does well in this so the well bred debutant Pictogram will be the default bet for many. David Wachman’s Nova appeals as a place bet. He was beaten less than a length when third at Bellewstown last time out and has the visor fitted for the first time today.

8:00 Arthur Guinness Handicap (50-70) (3yo, 1m 73y, 18 runners)

Dea Dia has gone off at big prices in all four of her starts but went closest yet last time out at Killarney when a three quarter length second to Wonder Holly. This is much tougher but she looks certain to make further improvement and has been raised just 1lb for that effort.

8:30 Guinness Race (4yo+, 1m 5f 186y, 7 runners)

Good Tradition should round off proceedings with a win for Dermot Weld. He stormed home at Killarney in May on soft ground but also has form on better ground.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
5.10 Tempo Mac (WIN and PLACE)
5.45 Palmetto Dunes (NAP)
6.15 Never Complain (PLACE)
6.50 Shadagann (WIN and PLACE)
7.25 Nova (PLACE)
8.00 Dea Dea (WIN and PLACE)
8.30 Good Tradition (NEXT BEST)
