SHAMROCK NAPS A WINNING DOUBLE: Not content with napping one horse, SHAMROCK napped a double on Sunday in a rare move that paid off at odds of 3.33 on BETDAQ!!!

After SNOW FALCON landed the nap (and only bet) at evens on Saturday I became a little more ambitious yesterday and napped a double as the only bet of the day.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: A double on UN DE SCEAUX and HURRICANE FLY

The two stars combined at odds of 3.33 on BETDAQ MULTIPLES and made for the perfect weekend with three winning selections from three.

I’m not sure where to start on yesterday’s Leopardstown action. The mere fact that Un De Sceaux is this morning trading at 1.9 on BETDAQ’s ante-post market for the Arkle says it all. He richly deserves all the adulations and respect in the market after a completely faultless display in the Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase.

As identified yesterday, he was facing two strong rivals on paper, one of which who already had a Grade 1 win over fences to his name, but they were brushed aside readily. He adopted his usual front running tactics but it was restrained and not tearaway style.

The bad news for Un De Sceaux’s rivals is that trainer Willie Mullins expects him to be even better on better ground!

He said after the race: “His jumping was fantastic today and he looked reasonably settled. He stood off the first one down the back and got a bit close to the second-last, but otherwise he was very good. He’s passed the test today and the Arkle will be his target at Cheltenham.”

“I was concerned about the ground today, but if anything he was better. He’s a bit stronger this year, but is not down to his best racing weight yet. Hopefully on better ground he’ll jump better again and faster.”

An hour later Mullins and Walsh were back in the crowded winners enclosure with Hurricane Fly who defied the years and smashed the record books with an amazing fifth successive win in the Irish Champion Hurdle.

Ruby was pushing along three out and fleetingly looked in trouble. But as usual there’s a script and it involves Hurricane Fly and Jezki jumping the last upsides.

This time Jezki was let down by his poor stumbling jump at the last – a real momentum stopper and Hurricane Fly was left to coast in clear of stablemate Arctic Fire who grabbed second close home.

The stats are amazing. Apart from the fifth win in the race it was the Fly’s 22nd Grade 1 victory and a stunning 10 out of 10 at Leopardstown.

Walsh thought it would have been the same result even without Jezki’s mistake. He said: “He gave me a brilliant jump at the last. Obviously Jezki stepped into it and missed it and that probably enhanced the margin we won by, but he’s an incredible horse. I jumped the last well and going on past performances, he wasn’t going to shirk the issue from there home. I thought I had it. It was unfortunate Jezki made the mistake, as without Jezki you wouldn’t have the race.”

I’ve always thought Walsh will choose Faugheen for the Champion Hurdle and still do. But without doubt that decision has suddenly got a little harder.
