NAP BEATEN SHORT HEAD AT 11/2: SHAMROCK went oh so close in the Committed Stakes at Navan yesterday when his nap and only bet of the day Speak In Colours was beaten a short head at 11/2.

Frustrating result yesterday with Speak In Colours going within a short head of success at 11/2.

Navan race again tonight with the feature race beating the Listed Woodland Stakes at 6pm

The betting revolves around last year’s winner Washington DC who should prove hard to beat again.

As I mentioned yesterday, some of Aidan’s runners are needing their seasonal reappearances – so the fact that Washington DC ran just 23 days ago is hopefully a positive. You can be even more bullish if he repeats his run last time out when finishing fourth at 20/1 to Jungle Cat in the Group 1 Al Quoz Sprint.

However, the negatives are whether he has fully recovered from those exertions and the travelling but probably more importantly whether the ground is right. It was good when he won last year and on the limited times we’ve seen him on testing ground he hasn’t been as effective.

In the circumstances, the value play might be on Downforce, who is rated an identical 109 to Washington DC but has proven form on testing ground.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Downforce (6.00 Navan)
