SHAMROCK 4 WINNING NAPS FROM 5: No Irish racing until Dundalk on Wednesday so the naps are on hold but Shamrock has a word on Flemenstar – brilliant winner of the John Durkan Memorial at Punchestown on Sunday.

Pride ofthe Partish won at Punchestown but the odds were less than expected.

It does mean the sequence of naps is now:

4 WINNERS FROM THE LAST 5

Wednesday: Thouva WON 13/8
Thursday: Ballycasey WON 4/6
Friday: Rapid Approach (2nd 15/8)
Saturday: Moscow Mannon WON 10/11
Sunday: Pride Ofthe Parish WON 1/3

I thought Flemenstar was hugely impressive at Punchestown yestersday in beating Sir Des Champs in a depleted three runner John Durkam Memorial after the morning withdrawal of Bog Warrior.

Flemenstar and Sir Des Champs are trading at around the same price on BETDAQ for the Gold Cup (see odds below) and at the moment I would firmly be in the camp of the former.

On Sunday, Andrew Lynch set out to make every yard aboard the even-money favourite and the order had barely changed with less than a mile to run.

Davy Russell appeared to be asking Sir Des Champs for a little more effort with five still to jump and the six year old was hard ridden to join issue at the head of the straight.

Lynch, however, was relatively motionless aboard Peter Casey’s stable star and the pair readily opened up a telling advantage on the run to the second last.

The Flemensfirth gelding was perfect at that obstacle – as he had been at all those before – and again at the last and crossed the line clear of the field to confirm his reputation as one of the brightest stars of the chasing game.

Trainer Peter Casey said afterwars: “I’m delighted with that, and he’s still not ready!”.

“He’ll go to Leopardstown at Christmas and will get three miles. I’ve never had any doubt about him getting three miles. The Gold Cup is still the plan long term.”

On a weekend which saw Sprinter Sacre shine like a beacon in the Tingle Creek at Sandown on Saturday, Flemenstar was a star himself on Sunday and what a prospect he remains.
