GRAND NATIONAL NEW FAVOURITE TODAY: Shamrock believes that a horse from the Irish champion stable can today unseat Junior from market leadership of the Liverpool Grand National.
Cheltenham and Aintree here we come. Hedgehunter and Black Apalachi gave us great days from today’s Bobbyjo in the Grand National at Aintree.
Black Apalachi is here again, though probably no yardstick at the age of 13 for the prestigious chase at Fairyhouse (3.30), and all eyes are on Prince Du Beauchene as this year’s trialist from the champion stable of Willie Mullins.
But I am equally keen to watch Magnanimity trialing for the Ryanair. He was beaten little more than a length by Bostons Angel in the RSA at last year’s Cheltenham Festival.
The trade paper made Alfa Beat favourite but ‘Shark’ Hanlon’s grey has earned his rating without cracking top-class company and has drifted to 6.8 on Betdaq, as I write.
Bostons Angel has yet to recover his form of last season, when very hard races probably took their toll, and Willie Mullins can follow up last year’s Bobbyjo win and stir up the Liverpool betting.
Prince De Beauchene won the John Smith’s Chase at Aintree in April and can make up for defeat in the Troytown, when he lost an iron. Victory could topple Junior from the top of the Liverpool market.
