NAVAN PASSES INSPECTION: Shamrock bids for his third winning nap in a row.

Diakali landed the nap in impressive style at Punchestown yesterday, making all the running to beat Flaxen Flare by 28 lengths but the SP (1/2) was much shorter than expected after the withdrawl of Dogora.

It does mean we are on for the hat-trick today after the success of Machete Mark at Dundalk on Friday night.

This afternoon’s meeting at Navan goes ahead after the track passed a precautionary inspection.

Officials had been concerned by the threat of overnight frost but the track was reported to be fit for racing this morning.

The going is heavy.

Despite a small field of four going to post for the opener at 12.45, a competitive race looks likely and I have a small preference for Cause Of Causes who won the competitive Ladbroke Handicap Hurdle in good style at Ascot last time out at odds of 25/1.

Hat-trick seeking Midnight Game is the obvious danger.

Alderwood had considerable ability over hurdles and the switch to chasing this season hasn’t brought about a win as yet. He slipped up on his chasing debut before going on to take third behind Canaly at Fairyhouse. He looks to face an easier task in the 2.45 today and is the nap.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Alderwood (2.45 Navan)
