EVENING ACTION AT GOWRAN PARK: Shamrock looks ahead to tonight’s flat card at Gowran Park where the ground is good to soft and our man takes on an odds-on favourite in the 6.10.

Dermot Weld has withdrawn debutant Marty’s Magic from the 6.10 at Gowran Park which should leave the coast clear for Caonach and That Boy David to fight out the finish.

The Ger Lyons trained That Boy David has shown promise on both his starts at Dundalk. He was predictably outclassed by the Mark Johnston raider Van Ellis when second to the 1/3 favourite last time out but did put five and a half lengths between himself and the third. This is his turf debut tonight.

He might struggle against Caonach though. Jim Bolger’s runner didn’t beat a single runner home on his debut at Dundalk but shined on his first start on the turf here in April when runner-up to Soohad and then struggled with the step-up in class to a listed event at the Curragh last time out when fifth to Requisition.

I’m not convinced the BETDAQ market has this right with That Boy David around 1.69 and Caonach 3.25 at the time of writing. At those prices there can only be one bet for me and that’s Caonach.

SHAMROCK’s BETS:
NAP: CAONACH (6.10 Gowran Park)
