DAY 6 OF GALWAY: SHAMROCK again brings you his race by race tips for each race. Today’s seven race card gets underway at 2.40 on expected yielding, soft in places ground on both tracks.

Seven races on the card at Galway on Saturday and the going will be more testing after overnight rain:

2:40 Ladbrokes Mobile Maiden Hurdle (4yo+, 2m, 13 runners)

Disappointing day at the office for Dermot Weld on Friday with no winners and two of his runners beaten at odds on. There might be many layers wanting to take on Zafayan at around 1.65 in this opener. He was readily brushed aside by the Willie Mullins trained Bachasson in the opening race on Monday but the winner looks very smart and there doesn’t appear to be anything lurking of his ability here.

3:15 Ladbrokes Handicap Hurdle (Grade B) (4yo+, 2m 5f 124y, 21 runners)

Wood Breizh was the Racing Post favourite this morning but is now a non runner along with My Direction. Prince Rudi sprung a 20/1 shock in this last year but looks to have a tough task of staging a repeat off top weight and he is now an 13-year-old. Narrow preference goes to Ibsen in the hope that his debut handicap mark proves lenient which it might well do as he has been running well in novice company.

3:50 ‘This Is The Ladbrokes Life’ E.B.F. Maiden (2yo, 1m 73y, 7 runners)

At the prices I have to favour the Kevin Prendergast trained Jaafy over Dermot Weld’s Kitten Loves Roses here although there are also some nice debutants. Jaafy looks sure to improve for his debut fourth at Gowran Park. Kitten Loves Roses was a debut fifth behind Sanus Per Aquam at the Curragh and is fitted with the visor for the first time today.

4:25 Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Nursery Handicap (2yo, 7f, 7 runners)

Interesting nursery on paper in which it is hard to be dismissive of any of them. Leath Na Hoibre may strike a blow for the smaller stable. He showed promise in two maidens at Listowel and the Curragh when third on both occasions and then ran out a comfortable winner of a nursery at the Curragh over six furlongs. He should be suited by the extra furlong and will like the underfoot conditions too.

5:00 Ladbrokes Red Day Handicap (50-75) (3yo+, 7f, 16 runners)

Three non runners at the time of writing but it doesn’t make it much easier. Hatton Cross is continuing to run well and is a win and place selection. He was only beaten a neck at Killarney last time out over 1m 100y by Reckless Lad. He is drawn 10 which isn’t great – but the same goes for big danger So Sensible who is in stall 12 and comes into this on the back of a good fourth in a Leopardstown handicap.

5:35 Ladbrokes ‘The Believer’ Handicap (50-80) (3yo+, 1m 3f 180y, 11 runners)

There could easily be one more win in Breenainthemycra who is chasing the four timer and is now a full two stone up in the weights since the winning run began !! However, judged on his latest success at Bellewstown there could still be more in the locker. One Cool Poet has been quite strong in early BETDAQ trading and rates a danger after his course and distance third earlier in the week.

6:05 Ladbrokes ‘Your Sport Your Way’ Flat Race (4-7yo, 2m, 13 runners)

Hopefully have saved the best until last and First Figaro gets the nap vote on the card. He has finished runner-up in both his bumpers at Leopardstown and Punchestown where he only went down by a head to Champers On Ice and finished a full 28 lengths clear of the third. Another Cyclone, who was fourth on debut at Fairyhouse, looks the principal danger.
