GRADED ACTION AT PUNCHESTOWN: The sportinglife.com Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) is the highlight on today’s Punchestown card.
The going is soft at Punchestown this afternoon or perhaps that should be standard?
It’s certainly ‘standard’ that another big race is dominated by a Willie Mullins trained runner – today it’s Douvan in the sportinglife.com Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) at 2.20.
The BETDAQ layers are hardly taking many chances at around 1.27 and it’s not a price I can really entertain, especially as the high-flying yard have suffered a few surprise setbacks in recent weeks and in some cases at very short price defeats.
That said, it’s pretty impossible to argue a case against Douvan after what he did at Gowran Park on his jumping debut. He made all to beat Sizing John by 12 lengths and the runner-up himself went on to win the Grade 1 Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle over the Christmas period !!
Douvan should continue his winning ways and consolidate his position at the front of Cheltenham ante-post markets.
My nap on the card is Noble Endeavor in the finale. The Gordon Elliott trained runner has been highly tried of late but was by no means disgraced when second of four in the Grade 2 Ladbrokes Ireland Lismullen Hurdle at Navan and should appreciate the ease in class today.
