IT WAS AN IRISH 1-2-3-4-5 IN THE GRAND NATIONAL: Irish bred horses that is and sadly not Irish trained runners as the fancied runners failed the Aintree test.

Firstly, great news that all horses and riders returned safely after the Grand National – just the tonic the great race needed.

Secondly, well done to the connections of the winner Auroras Encore.

Thirdly, did ANYONE back it? I’m struggling to make a case for it even this morning !

Seabass, my pick, was prominent for much of the race but jockey Katie Walsh reported after the race he got ‘very tired’ in the closing stages and faded to 13th. Ted Walsh’s other runner Colbert Station unseated AP at the Chair and the well fancied On His Own, fell, as he did last year.

Quick about turn today as we head back to the flat at the Curragh.

In the Group 3 Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes it might well be a case of ladies first. The three fillies in the race all look to have strong chances. I can give all three a realistic chance so at BETDAQ odds am going to split my stake into thirds and back all three guaranteeing a profit (assuming one of them wins of course !).

In the Irish Open Alleged Stakes at 4.20 all eyes will be on former Dewhurst winner Parish Hall who returns to the track for the first time since his shock 20/1 win at Newmarket in 2011. Against some race fit rivals he can hardly be considered a betting proposition at around 2.4.

In the 2.45 Sea Shadow appeals. He was eye catching on debut at Leopardstown when third at 33/1 to Big Break and looks interesting at around 3/1 in a race where the better class trainers (but not necessarily horses) dominate the market.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Sea Shadow (2.45 Curragh)
EQUAL WIN STAKES: Yellow Rosebud, La Collina, Lily’s Angel (3.20 Curragh)
