DOUBLE GRADE 1 ACTION AT LEOPARDSTOWN: SHAMROCK previews the two Grade 1 races on the Leopardstown card on Sunday.

Douvan (my next best) could hardly have been more impressive yesterday in the Racing Post Novice Chase at Leopardstown. It was a disappointing effort from the nap Rashaan however who could only finish fifth in the Grade 2 juvenile hurdle.

Limerick survived a morning inspection and will go ahead on heavy ground. However there is a strong possibility of heavy overnight rain so officials will again inspect ahead of Monday’s card.

Two Grade 1 races on the Leopardstown card this afternoon.

1:15 PP ‘So Quick, So Easy iPhone App’ Chase (Grade 1) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 1f, 6 runners)

Un De Sceaux is already a red hot favourite for the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival (6/4 with Ladbrokes ante-post) and should consolidate his position with a win here. He has 9lb in hand on his closest rival on official ratings and has only ever blotted his copy-book once with a fall on chasing debut. I’m taking Sizing Granite to chase him home.

1:45 PP Future Champions Novice Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m, 9 runners)

An infinitely more competitive Grade 1 but it could again be destined to be won by Willie Mullins with the progressive Long Dog. Mullins has a quartet of runners including stable companion Bachasson. The pair fought out the finish to the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse with Long Dog prevailing by just a neck. Ruby Walsh again opts for Long Dog and I think it’s the right call.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Long Dog (1.45 Leopardstown)
NEXT BEST: Un De Sceaux (1.15 Leopardstown)
